You will have to pay sales tax at checkout if BB has business operations in your state.

Does buying this while back-ordered lock in the price?

yep, apparently it does. In there like swimwear.

Good price, but I think I would rather pay an extra $45 and double the RAM on it.

i agree too, but if you are set in stone about not paying over $275-300 for a card, the 8800GTS 320 slips in right under that.

Yeh same here . The problem is the coupons are good for *instore-only, *instock items only , * regular priced items . The first being the big problem , as these 8800GTS's are not carried instore . :( Funny too is , that graphics cards "are" listed on 2 of the 3 coupons :bang head
Typical BB coupons ...

well if you're on 1280x1024 or 1440x900, i think the 320 will probably be plenty of ram... for higher res the 640 helps to shine. :)
i know b/c i've done a 256 to 512 comparison and seen a diff...

So is anyone else going to try to weasel an in-store pickup since the item is backordered? I was at compusa earlier today and saw this exact card except only overclocked to 550mhz instead of 580, so there IS a chance they have some in a saferoom on site.

I was about to answer your concern until I saw your avatar and now I'm scared!!! :D :D
I'm not sure if CompUSA will PM an online deal... can anyone help this fella out with the scary avatar? :D

Probably not... the last time I tried to PM at CompUSA on a local instore deal, the manager just refused to because they weren't in stock. If it says right on the page, "out of stock," they'll probably zap it right there unless you get lucky with a manager.
Fry's might be worth trying (if they even carry the brand/card?). Though their official policy states instock only, they've been loose with it before.

Maaaybe I should've written that a little clearer. What I meant was picking up a card onsite at a local best buy, which I think might be possible since if compusa has 8800-640 OC cards instore then best buy might also.

Just ordered one of these babies.
Says their on backorder and that ill be getting it early July. T.T oh well, its a cheap 8800GTS and its a hell of a upgrade from my x1950gt
Most best buys don;t carry the 8800 series in store. Online ordering is the only way to go for this card. They can order the card in the store but you'll still have to wait for it to be shipped in.

I'd die, i'm always looking for as much eye candy as possible in all the games I play. I had to upgrade from my 9200 the day Counter-Strike:Source came out. I went from the 9200 to a BFG 6800GT to this. The jump to the 8800 should be amazing.
Anyone else order one of these? They sent me an email saying they were on backorder(knew that) and wouldn't be delivered till early July. Just want to check and make sure every one else is getting the same torture. >.>

How do you figure? I've heard rumors of a minor price drop but no real evidence. Do you know something I don't? Cause if so I'll wait a couple weeks.

God I'm tempted to buy this card. Unfortunately I'm gonna be pinned with $24 in tax, but at $340 it's still an amazing deal. I suppose I could just settle for a 320 mb card, but who wants to do that when a card like this is at my fingertips?
I'm tempted too. I don't really need it now though; is there any reason to think I wouldn't be able to get an equivalent or better deal in a couple months?
Sportwarrior
06-23-07, 04:35 PM
Well I gave in and picked one up... I think the backorder is a blessing in disguise, as now I have a few weeks to really sit on my decision without worrying if the deal is gonna disappear. I somehow doubt price cuts are gonna occur within that time frame, but I also kinda think I may end up canceling the order... we'll see how I feel in a few days.

Yes. Best deal that could be found last month was $295 shipped. No taxes. Best deal that can be found this month is $316 shipped... plus taxes. (The shipping would actually be cheaper). New processors coming out next month. RAM prices going back up. Cheapest price outside of this Best Buy deal? $379.
You can wait all you want... I'm no sucker. When I saw $295 I knew the chances of me seeing it again were pretty damned slim.
I mean has the 7900GTX gone down to $195 yet?

Update from Best Buy: Still out of stock.
I would normally be annoyed by getting an email just to tell me that when it's obvious by the lack of a delivery notice, but given the sort of people who work and shop at best buy I suppose it's actually needed most of the time.

Yea thats a heck of a deal. I seems right around this time prices drop, and then from here on out they slowly creep back up throughout the rest of the year.

Karadhas, the out of stock notification I got detailed a few ways customer service can be of help, including checking a local store to see if it's in stock. I know I've seen this card at one point at my local Best Buy, but I'm not sure when. It may be worth a shot to drop by your local shop and check to see if they've got it... Or, conversely, it may be worth a call to customer service... they may be able to gauge whether the local stores have it in stock or not.
Worth a shot, anyway.

I'm still going back and forth on whether I should keep the order placed... I still need a new monitor and I have a 7800GTX, which is more than enough to last me another year... It's just so tempting to keep the order, but I know if I wait I'll have opportunities to buy better cards for good prices down the road... If I get this card now, it'll be my card for another 2+ years... Yikes, I dunno. A few more days/weeks to decide, I suppose.

I still think I'm gonna cancel, though. Once I do get the 2007wfp i should be able to just get by with a 320 mb card anyway... It's hard to make myself do it though, lol... This was a great deal on an awesome card!
