Yeah, I saw those procs at newegg a couple of days ago and having read the article linked below, I came real close to picking one up just to fool around with and perhaps compare to an "old" Cedar Mills.

This, folks, is not your Daddy's Celeron.
seems like a real nice bang for the buck....i mean its 54$

Let us know how it goes.
These CPUs will certainly upgrade what goes into future low-end PCs to the level of what used to be a pretty good rig, of course, the OEM builders will still be using mobos and other components that will create new bottle necks, but the CPU should not be the weak link.
For the DIY, it sure gives a nice boost to entry level rigs.
And for the rest of us a nice new cheap toy to torture...I mean tweak. :D

Its a decent chip, but IMO the Pentium Dual Core 21XX's are a better buy. Double the cache, and two cores. Both of these O/C like a MOFO and are fun little chips to mess with.

Yes, I would agree that the E21xx series is a better performance buy than the Celeron L, but then the E4xxx series has double the cache of the E21xx series so it would probably be a better buy than the E21xxs and oh, yeah, the E6x2 series has double the cache of the E4xxx series...
Just messing.
But for a cheap toy, you have to admit that these look like they could be fun and for a bargain rig, they beat the heck out of the old Intel alternatives.

However, as you know this article is just a preview of the engineering sample of the upcoming product. In any case once Conroe-L is launched, we will return to this topic and maybe some of the conclusions made today will need to be revised.
ES's one might be up to par with the retails. sometimes es's clock better sometimes they dont. another thing he didnt try pad modding it to 1066fsb to see if that effect ocing at all.
if you are waiting for intel price cuts or a quad core this is a good standby cpu. yea it might not be dual core but when it comes down to it this cpu is not targeted at us. think low heat HTPC,like passive cpu style.

Thanks Gents - I might just have to order one to tide me over until the G0s are out.
$54 - That's a tank of gas for some people.

well the celeron-l 420 is only $45 ;)
it still has a 8x multi. i think it would be the better choice of the 2.

Because it would overclock better? or am I once again missing the obvious?

no not oc better, it would just use a higher fsb to reach the same cpu speed.

Oh I see. I keep forgetting that all things being equal it is better to be 7x400 than 8x350. That's just an example.

this looks like a pretty decent chip to get into a C2D setup(if upgrading from AMD like me).
Build a good system around it, and get a nice dual core, or quad later.

I'm sure it will beat my PIV 2.66@3.12 somewhat.
It's a stop gap until the new steppings come out. That and I have most of my parts and need to get moving on the build.
$45 bucks never hurt anybody.;)

Hi,
I'm from Australia and can't find this product anywhere.
Is there any online international stores that anybody knows of that stock this product?
Cheers

Did you try google?
If it is not available yet, I'm sure that it will be soon. I believe that it showed up in Thailand and such places first, then Europe, followed by the States.
Like a virus, it will spread around the entire world in no time! :)

I was just messing around with my earlier reply, but truthfully, your point is very valid for someone buying a chip to use, as opposed to just playing around with.
These Celeron-Ls are single core and do not have hyper-threading, therefore, in any kind of multi-tasking environment, the E21xx series should have a significant leg up on the new Celeron-L.
These are budget system procs, but like the old Celerons, they can be fun to tweak...just to see how high they will clock...or to beat up on some aging FX-57s. :D
Really, really, really never thought that I would ever post such a comment as my last one...and mean it.

Very tempting, this little A64 may be in danger of being replaced depending on how well my parts sale goes :D.
