I saw this on CNN and this deal apparently is well hidden on the BellSouth/AT&T website, they even said so on CNN. This deal is given to appease the FCC with AT&T's merger with Bellsouth.

So I took it upon myself to find you this deal since I don't like AT&T and Bellsouth all that much.

But I dug deep and found this great cyber deal to spite both of them. There are a few conditions such as this is for new DSL users and not for exsisting users and a few more conditions.

But if you meet the conditions, this is a good deal.

HERE'S ALL THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND LINKS YOU need to find this deal:

THIS IS THE ALMOST HIDDEN BURIED LINK TO THIS DEAL, IT'S a JAVA LINK SO I'll show you how you find this information:

FIRST GO HERE:

http://www.bellsouth.com/consumer/inetsrvcs/index.html?src=lftnav

THEN SCROLL TO ALMOST THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE TO THIS:

'Already a BellSouth Internet customer'

CLICK ON the Java Link: 'Term contract plans available'

Your there!!!!

That's because this deal was shown on CNN, CNN did not tell anyone how to find this buried deal, so I imagine that many people are calling them to figure out where this deal is on their site.

I like how AT&T doesn't list this plan on the 'Plan Comparison' page, and how they listed this deal under 'Already a Bellsouth customer' and nowhere else, not even in their site search, then for good measure AT&T hid it even further labeling this; 'Term contract plans available', then made the link a java link so deal sites can't easily link to the deal.

Surprised the FCC let them get away with this cr@p. The moment I saw this on CNN, I made it my business to find this info and spread the word like Paul Revere.

The representative i talked to told me that the package was available for online order, but where i am requesting service (Charlotte, NC 28262) will not offer DSL until July 30th. She said the offer may only last one month, but she did not have access to that information.

768Kbps is painfully slow too....

Timewarner Cable it is i guess....

Sam, thanks for the mention this is great for people still on dialup because they cant see spending 30-50 a month on internet service.

But the link. Is listed Below "Already an existing customer", but not "under" it. (It follows it on the page but isnt part of the same section if you understand my poor wording)
There are 3 bulleted items following "already existing" and than the js link is back out at full tab (even further left then "existing customer"

Oh and for those too lazy too look, here is the direct link.

Yes, I found this deal mostly for people on dial up that want more or to get their foot into the broadband door.

As far as where this info is on AT&T's site anf their wording? Can't answer that, I can say for a fact they buried this info in an area very hard to find so nobody actually signs up for this deal, even CNN said as much on TV. (Soon as they said this on TV I dropped what I was doing and was going to find it one way or the other since I love AT&T so much.

AT&T only offer this deal to appease the FCC and it was a condition to get the Bellsouth merger approved.

I found you guys a more detailed article in the Boston Globe about this hush hush promotion:

Hehe, good job SSS. That's way lame that they offer a deal "to appease customers" and then bury it on their site and hide it. $10 a month for high speed is definitely not bad at all, especially considering many paid $24/month for AOL for so long. 768kb isn't terrible; definitely better than dial up. I'd say this is the best watch-dogging done by CNN in years! Nice.

Burninate,

AT&T isn't doing this to appease the customers, they are only offering this deal to appease the FCC. At&T doesn't give a hoot about appeasing their customers, here some proof of that.

Without getting into a big warez debate, this is another reason to not like AT&T (http://www.redherring.com/Article.aspx?a=22586&hed=AT%26T+to+Block+Pirated+Content+&sector=Industries&subsector=EntertainmentAndMedia).

“Somebody running a server in their basement on our network and uploading illegal copies movies raises the costs for everybody else and jams the network in ways we’re not compensated for,” said Mr. Cicconi, whose company is also one of the world’s largest providers of Internet-based corporate communications services.

I read this and laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair.... Comcast and other large internet providers obviously like their customers more than AT&T.

K, I misread your first post. I did, however, read that story you linked to and that's completely ridiculous what AT&T is doing. After reading that story, it sounds like Ma Bell is back and bigger than ever. I'm not sure I really understand what vested interest AT&T has in blocking internet piracy. It sounds like they're going to great lengths and investing quite a few bucks to ensure that their service is not used for piracy (with little to nothing to gain?). A little strange to say the least. Also, I don't think I quite understand how $10 DSL subscriptions to new customers is going to alleviate anything in terms of their monopolization of the industry.

WOW!

Sam, my father is currently using NetZero, and it's SLOW... he BADLY needs to upgrade his internet to something better. Unfortunately, this is at his business. We tried Verizon DSL and they said it's not available to him. Cable, on the other hand, is out of the budget, and we're trying to steer away from it (although it does rock @ my house).

We have Verizon for telephone service at the business... to use this deal here, will we need to swap him over to Bell Atlantic/AT&T?

Here's what happens when I put in his telephone #:
ERROR:
We currently do not show a BellSouth phone account for the number entered. Please try again or contact your local BellSouth Business Office.

Oh well. :( We're in year 2007, and all my dad can use is dial-up? This is retarded... either that or pay the premium for broadband... it's ridiculous that cheap broadband is still tough to find.

Ok so I go to their site, and go through all the steps posted above, and it's only showing the $19.99 and up deals. Also I'm currently an AT&T user, and when I put in my phone number, its not letting me sign up. Anyone have any ideas?

AT&T also allowed the NSA to set up shop at major peering points and sniff traffic - all traffic - that moved through their pipes. This went on for a number of years, and the EFF has been pushing to make this public and hold people accountable.

http://www.eff.org/news/archives/2007_06.php#005329

Everything was sniffed. If it went through an AT&T peering point, the NSA was given free reign to check it out. No conspiracy here, it's been confirmed. The telcos can go screw after that sort of collusion.

a good 1/2 the country can't get broadband to their house. They live in the country, far away from 'civilization'. Phone and cable companies have no reason to expend a lot of money for a handful of customers here and there. That is why dial-up is still going so strong. Where I live (WV), about 3/4 of the state (in terms of area) is still limited to dial-up. Only a handful of the bigger cities have access to broadband.

I'm glad this got exposed by major news sources. It does a little bit to restore my faith in the '4th estate' not being under the thumb of those who buy advertising.

As for the FCC...$@!* them and the bs of 'deregulation' and allowing large media companies to buy up additional outlets and go back toward monopolies. I'm sure there was a little wink-wink deal 'yea you have to offer this but you can bury it as much as you like and have strict terms for sign-up.' Deregulation in many industries has been a joke, but it's especially hurtful in what should be public utilities such as water, power, and imo Internet access. The US is falling so terribly behind in net access despite agreements like the 1996 Telecommunications act it's just sad.
