Yup, APS in Arizona just got approved for another 7% hike!
That'll be 15% this year I believe. Maybe over the last 2 years.
The wife is pist now about the electric bill!!!
Wait until she hears about this. :bang head
Glad I updated to C2Ds when I did.
How's everyone else holding up?
I know the guys up north are a little better off, (maybe)
This is gonna be a tuff summer.

I know I've had to move a lot of mine back to stock for the summer, just for the heat. I also shut down all the "old" prescott cores. I'm down to 11-12k ppd instead of the old 16-17k. Bill doubles for the summertime, due to A/C.
I'm in So. CA, and we're having our first really warm days of this summer, coming up this week. Should pop up to the mid 90's where I'm at.
It's 11:30 pm right now, and the A/C is still cycling on and off from todays mid 80's F. temps, and my 4 C2D's. My electric bill is quite reasonable because I save on everything else except the folding rigs, and the A/C, and nothings O/C'ed enough to worry about.
When it gets over 100 degrees, that's when it becomes very difficult to have the folding rigs running. Any extra heat on those days is just NOT appreciated.
It's been a really warm and dry winter - keeping my fingers crossed for a normal summer.

SoCal here too. I'm a bit perplexed, I shut down and sold off the components for 4 rigs(30% of my farm) but the electric bill only dropped by $8 from $439 to $431.
 Even though I live in the High Desert we're at 4000 ft., and are near the mountains; we get a bit lower temps(10~15F) than the valleys, like San Bernardino and San Gabriel Valleys.

Oregon approved a 7% hike without any real debate... which has me a little worried. Thank god my CRT started dying, replaced her with a nice LCD and hopefully gonna throw up another quad after the July price drop.

50% hike in the DC area at the end of the month. Count yourself lucky.
I may have to move rigs to the basement to keep them cool, as keeping my upstairs folding room below 85 deg F is going to get a lot harder.

We're in for 5% more next month. Glad I switched to 65W Brisbanes. I'll cut back to my 3 layers (300 watts max) in the tower until October and a borg at work.

You must be on a different plan than we are Cajun... rates already spiked last month for us. Our plan puts us on a rather low rate for most of the year and steps up ~40-50% in the summer months in lieu of a more consistent but higher rate throughout the entire year- the other plan you must be on. Plus it's just really HOT down here. :D

Nope... if that's the case where you are, maybe I'll move to Canada.

We can do that here in Wisconsin at least my area, its more or less they take an average over the year of what its showed in the past and you pay the same amount monthly. Then when the year end comes or if you move, they will actually recalculate what was actually spent, and what you owe or what they owe you.
Its nice but you must call it in or do something with it for it to be enabled. I know my neighbor does it because there winter and really high hot summer days killed there pocket book during that time of year.

That is the highs for Orlando through Sunday.
You wonder why I don't have a farm as you guys. Even in the winter down here, I don't really need a heater but a few times during the winter when it down into the 40's.
No rate hikes yet here on Progress Energy. Actually on of the other power companies just cut the rates some, people are saving like $.50 on their bills, not a lot, but every penny or 50 pennies count. I think its some kind of long term rebate from when the hurricanes hit two years ago.

tell me 'bout it!! I don't have a big house, just a average size townhouse, and my last month's power bill is $400+ while my neighbor is <$200 (more like $150)!! I almost got a heartattack and really needs to hide it from my GF!! I even had a (short) thought of shutting down most of my farm!! you know, that's almost another car payment there (or a good part of a car payment!)!! and these Quads aren't easy to cool too!! :(
my farm and my inefficient ranch bungalow have me in the same range as you Gary, but with virtually no ac billed yet.
... i get a 2 month bill and the ac has only been on been on since last bill ... for about 10 days so far.
I started hiding the bill from my wife a long time ago :D
No recent rate hikes here ... but i miss out on a rate decrease for the summer since i am not reducing my usage by 10%.

Hey, I've got a healthy farm of quads and we're sitting at 94, 92, 90, 91, 95...
It's the 105's that hurt... a lot!
My vote is for Alaska! Just leave the machines in a room with the window open. :) The OC in the winter would be incredible!

Just watch out for the condensation factor... you may end up with water cooling you didn't count on. :D

Garry, I feel your pain... I am starting to miss those whole house fans that used to be common before AC was all over the place.
If only there were an automatic thermostat to recirulate air from the basement to cool things down before kicking in the AC....

You don't have to move all the way to Canada or Alaska to get cool temperatures.
When I lived in Colorado at 9500 feet it only reached 75 degrees on 1 day each of the 2 years I was there. Even in the summer any extra heat from computers would have been welcome.
It was not as remote as it sounds. I was less than 1 hr from downtown Denver.
For 3 months during winter it would be about 15 below zero at night and maybe get up to 15 or 20 above during the day. At those temps and about 5 % humidity or less, I don't think you would have to worry about condensation and cooling for your computer would be fantastic.

But thats 9500ft... People with turbo cars have to re-tune for better fuel economy ;)
Not to mention all us sea level people getting waaay too out of breath doing anything physical lol.

I think this would benefit many a-folder. They sell Attic and greenhouse ventilators that do just that. The attic ones are of little use as they only kick on above 90F but the greenhouse ones may go as low as 75F. You only need a lowspeed quiet fan just to pull the cooler air up and as long as the temps are above 74 in the living space the vent should run with the ac kicking in at 76. Cool air always settles so that would bring up lost AC air from the basement. Just don't let the fan blow on the thermostat, it would short cycle the AC causing a rise in humidity.

We have 2 in our house, they cool the house quick status at night. Luckily here in CA it typically cools down at night. The nights it doesnt, its horrible.
My bungalow has a ceiling exhaust fan through attic ... works very well as long as it cools down at night and humidity is bearable. Needs good seals for the winter tho so i don't heat my attic then.
