I don't get it, i-Ram is hardware like any other storage device and runs via SATA. I wonder how they will handle solid state drives when they start appearing for desktops. I have sent a message to their staff, I'll let you know what their response is.

I would like to hear how they're going to rationalize that decision. Sounds stupid to me.

You may want to check out this (http://www.yougamers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52127) thread on the FM forums.
Quote from FM staff ristoc:
I zapped those projects, policy for PCMark05 is that ramdisks are not allowed for valid default HDD tests. We will make adjustments to apply this policy to the ORB when we find an effective way to detect it automatically. Until then the ramdisk scores will be zapped when encountered.
Future versions of PCMark will have different policy which will take account the development of the new HDD technologies.

I write for FM's gaming site - I'll ask my FM contacts if they're willing to shed any more light on this.
I think they'll be back up shortly.

They are not shedding any more light on this. :)
They don't have any light to shed...

I take it you're not an FM fan? :)
No, actually I'm just trying to be truthful without being too harsh.
I've worked with nick plenty of times over the past four years and he's always been very responsive about everything. In fact last year he wanted to pull all the i-ram scores, but I reasoned with him and he more or less agreed, so we've had I-ram scores for quite some time now.
But...it seems like he's too busy to be around much atm, and franly the rest of the staff doesn't seem to understand what's going on. I've got a feeling that ristoc thinks that the iram is ramdisk software for starters. I know MACMAC and the others thought only a couple of weeks ago that they didn't have a policy at all, which is why they were allowing ramdisk scores. Now they seem to be confused and are removing everything.

There is some confusion for sure. Seems like there are some communication issues.
Continuity is important with a database like the ORB, so adhering to published policy is important.
