Multiplier/FSB which to do first...

Just unlocked my 1800... was running the fsb at 147 now that it is unlocked, what is better. Drop the multiplier and raise the fsb or raise the multiplier and lower the fsb?

I would assume the first but you know what assuming does!

Higher FSB is allways better.

I allway set the multiplyer down allot (say to 8) and then see what the maximum FSB i can get stable is.

Then i bump up the multiplyer. You might want to drop the fsb a little so you can get your chip higher, it depends on how much FSB you loose.

Ok, did that 8.5*199... not too bad for an 1800 imo...
Here is an odd one for you though... at that setting, prime95 and sandra pass cpu and mem tests but 3dmark2k1 comes up with a currupted file error on the lobby clip and gets worse from there... back the fsb to 195 and it runs without a problem...
So, what would cause the 3dmark to fail at 199 when there does not appear to be a problem with any other programs...

What kind of proof do you want... You can go to madonion and search on the scores for ti200 lessthan 1700mhz mine is 8771... I can post some screenshots later when i figure out how to post a pic...

Bet he has a 8KHA+ and he's using that Beta BIOS....otherwise 200FSB isn't possible even with PC2700mem, saying that though Intel is working on 1Ghz RAM!

To answer you question I am running an Abit KR7A-Raid with 2x256 Crucial Reg ECC.

Anyone want to take a shot at why i can run 3dmark at 195 and not 196 when my system stress test ok at 199???

i have the same ram, and it wont even do 150mhz, i cant see you getting 199mhz out of ecc ram.. thats crazy...

You can see my 195 at madonion right now. I would give you the link but i cant get to madonion from work (they have it blocked). just do a search on amd xp's <1700mhz running the ti200 at 1024x768x32 score is like 8771 the title is 235/540 was in the top 5 or so with that search criteria...

I will dl the cpuid when i get home so you dont think i am feeding you a line of crap.

As I understand it, raising the FSB puts stress on your whole computer (AGP RAM etc), whereas upping the multiplyer just makes the processor work harder, something these processors can handle. Correct me if im wrong, somebody....

Intel are looking really strong though now....I don't think its funding as AMD were ahead remember the 1Ghz Race?

However Intel played dirty and by using poor effeincy they could get to 2Ghz easy (fooling consumers), the Xp's are catching up now with the 1.8Ghz in Feb but otherwise....

I remember the good ol days, AMD with there twice as fast bus, quicker CPU's and faster and cheaper!

Now Intels Bus is 400Mhz! 1Ghz Ram is on the way anda new 2.2Ghz+ chip!

I know AMD are faster but Intels memory really helps it......were did it go wrong:confused:

Go to the memory information part of Sisoft sandra and post that i'd like to see if the memory is actually @ 200!!! It could have a divider so its only @ 150 which would explain loads.

Also is it @ cas2/3???

I would guess so, as my mem hits a limit @ 160.

However how many PCI cards are you using?

Running @ 200FSB there aren't really ANY cards that will work as the PCI is to out of spec, try removing them all.

ALso if there all out your AGP could be causeing it, so you oculd try AGP2x instead of 4x disable fast-writes etc, however it could well be slower than 195FSB.

Experiment but WOW!!!! I mean a lot of people struggle to hit 150 180 with LN2 but 200!!!!

Hey I got my FSB to 210 but I don't have a NIC. Everything elso works but the NIC card works good.

I starting at 150FSB and working my way up until I lose the NIC and then I'll back it down one click.

Disolved - Chill dude! No disrespect toward you was meant. That was between freezer and myself. We both have Ti200 so I would hope you could post a better mark. And I did address him in the post.

BTW - Can anyone sugest a good O/Cn NIC card. My system will work all the way up to 210FSB but I lose the Nic after 150. The system shows the card working but it just will not talk with the router above 150.

I use a mini blue orb (it matches my video ram heatsinks) with Type44 Heat sink compond (Great stuff) I've gotten mine up to 240 core/500 mem with no probs.

Freezer has a wacked out, 2 fan configuration! He wouldn't let me put any 44 on it. Too much trouble.
