View Full Version : I need some serious luck, guys
I need all of you to take out any lucky talismans, rabbits' feet and whatever else you have that's lucky, and rub them and send the luck my way, 'cause I've got a job interview tomorrow!
It couldn't come at a better time, either. My EI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employment_insurance#Canada) benefits just ended today, too. I thought I had more time.
I sent my resume to the company via email and I got a call back no more than a half an hour after it was received. I think I know why, too. The company primarily works with POS (Point of Sale) terminals and a specific program relating to the jeweler's industry. Seeing as I've worked (pretty extensively) with POS systems, I figure that's what struck the right chord. The interview is set up for tomorrow at 2:30 PM EDT, so wish me all kinds of luck. I need this more than my next five minutes of oxygen.
I'm excited!

It's in Font Hill, about 20 minutes south of St. Catharines on the 406.
I'm leaving right now. I'll report back when I get back :)

Oh seriously? I think they just gave that job to me... well maybe not, I couldn't even get a job washing dishes at a pizza place.
Tell them about how hardcore of a troll hunter you are and if they don't give you the job their families will pay by never banned from ebay.
Or you could just roll in there like the baller you are and score the job regardless. I have a feeling that will be the winner.
i think you got it in teh bag
if they dont then pwn them people that suxxors (cause they wont give you a job)
so how did it go oni?

Come on Oni!
If you don't come back and tell us you got the job, I say we ban Oni!
:D
The interview went great! He said he has two more to interview, but I have a really good feeling about it. I think my POS experience is what may turn the tide in my favour.
I'm not out of the woods yet, but I may be soon :)

wheeee!
Update!
I sent the guy a 'Thank you' email. Just a quick note, y'know? Thanks for the interview and all that jazz. About 10 minutes later, I get an email back:
From the email:Dear Karl,
I would liek [sic] to meet you one more time, pls call me at your convenience!
My next interview with him is at 12:00 tomorrow afternoon. Wish me more luck, guys!

Um... so you're going to work for a guy who can't even use proper English in business communications? Using "pls" just shows that he's not even trying. :bang head

or on the glass half full side:
The guy is overwhelmingly busy because he is doing the jobs of two people and needs to get somebody in there ASAP.
or the guy just feels comfortable enough with Oni to use shorthand.

I know college professors that don't capitalize a single word of their emails, even ones that are sent out to large amounts of people. Kinda drives me crazy. Good luck with the trip back though Oni

You should see some of the communications that I get w/ my current job. All caps, no caps, internet short-hand and spelling mistakes galore. This guy made a common mistake (liek) and used internet shorthand in one email and he's not even trying?
Let's go over your posting history and analyze it as closely as you analyzed that email, and we'll see where we stand, ok? ;)
At any rate, I'm all kinds of excited. This could be a really good opportunity for me!

Wow... that is terrible. If that guy wasn't trying, then those people at your current job must be anti-trying, if that even makes sense.

Anyway, good luck with the next interview. I hope you get the job. :santa:

I think it's just bad form on an initial business communication to not take the time to spellcheck or make an effort to type it out. I would be scared to write internet shorthand in that situation for fear of losing credibility. But that's just me.
Having said that, I hope this really is a good opportunity and I am sure you are a show-in for the job. Cheers mate

Well, this is the guy who is handing out the jobs. I think we can cut him a little slack on this one guys.
On the other side of the coin, I can tell you that I have been in a position to hire many people over the years. When I am faced with a stack of resumes and cover letters that I need to go through quickly, one of the first things that I look for is common mistakes. Really, if you can't take the time to get that much right, then you go right in pile "B". Pile "A" gets looked at for actual job requirements first and only if I don't get what I need from there does pile "B" avoid an untimely trip to the circular file.
/me wishes Oni more luck.

hah, i noticed the typo when trying to spell "Like", But i didn't even notice that he put pls instead of please. I'm so used to seeing it, i didn't even notice.
Oh well, good luck oni! sounds like you may have a DAMN good chance at getting yourself a new job!

Congrats on the new gig, sir. Good luck on your first day!
First day went great. Learned a bunch of stuff regarding the deployment of the program, talked to a few clients on the phone and learned how some of our security keys work.
Posting on the OCF . . . from WORK! :D
Haha I hadn't posted on OCF since for about 2 years until I realized everything else was blocked and I remembered this awesome site
Now I'm an avid poster because I don't get enough work (about 15 minutes of real work a day)
I'm happy for you man, if it's the job you wanted I hope you can advance in that field
