I have my E4300 at 3.0gz with the stock heatsink with no case. CPU voltage is at 1.325. Room temp right now is about 23C. Is this normal? Seems a little warm.

download coretemp agian but this time get .95

those temps look fine for that oc esp on the stock sink.

coretemp 0.94 is off ... use coretemp 0.95
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Core_Temp_d5665.html

but your temperatures seem reasonable, just try to keep them below 60C or 65C at the most.

EDIT: beaten by the evil

Thats about the my e4300 read at with TAT my readings were always around 32c with speedfan though...

Coretemp .95 crashes my computer sometimes so I was using 94 but anyway, 95 is showing 47/47. These are idle temps.

Edit: btw, I was thinking of getting a HSF. Which one should I get? Everyone has a different opinion about which one is the best. Some people say Arctic Cooling Freezers are as good as Ultra 120s and Tuniq Towers are better than Ultra 120s and Ultra 120s are the best etc...
I've hit 3.3ghz but I wasn't comfortable with the temps so I dropped it back down to 3

Oh wait, I thought you were running Orthos at those temps. Those temps are too high for idle and especially with only 1.325V. Are you using the stock cooler? You may want to try reseating the heatsink and if that doesn't help lapping it.

The Ultra-120 extreme is the best but the regular Ultra-120 and tuniq tower are close behind.

Your temps seem about right for a stock heatsink, definitely get one of these above. There is no sense in punishing your cpu like that.

I'm using the stock cooler. I've tried reseating and I replaced the thermal paste with AS5 which brought down the temp by like 3C. If it's the stock cooler I'd rather just get an aftermarket HSF. It's just too much work for a stock heatsink.

I just set it back down to 1.8 and the temps are the same. Exactly the same. Could it be the northbridge messing with the sensors? My NB is always hot. My motherboard is a Gigabyte 965P-S3

no thats not gonna make a difference, cause the temp that TAT read are DIE temps. speed fan is reading IHS temps, its better to use TAT. the question though is what do your load temps look like at stock vs oc to 3ghz?

you are running vcore still withing specs the idle temps probably won't change much but I bet under load you will notice the difference in your temps from 1.8 to 3.0

In any case you should definitely go with an aftermarket cooler, definitely not your NB. Just a case of bad stock cooling.

okay so I did a short test. Ran dual sp2004 for both tests for 6 minutes.

1.8ghz 56-58C
3.0ghz 58-63C

those temps look fine.. nothing to worry about...

Cool I thought I got a bad one. Do I really need to spend a bill on air cooling?
I only want to oc to 3.2 or 3.3ghz.

3ghz on stock hs is as far as i would go, if you want higher you will want to get a better hs.

I understand that much but do I need to spend like $90 on a heatsink for good temps at 3.2 or 3.3ghz?

I was looking at arctic cooling freezer 7 pros and I'm getting mixed feelings. Some people say it's good for overclocking but there must be a reason ultra 120s are $30 more.

thermalright has better build quality then artic. plus the u120 has alot more surface area to cool the heatpipe. it really up to you but you dont need to spend $90 for HS.

you could get this one

or
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/scin5picpuco.html
or
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/thulcpucofor.html
or

really a lot of choices, none of which are wrong. imo though the u90 is better then the freezer. on the same note though if you really want the freezer
get this instead

just a rebandaged freezer.
