Does anyone have an educated guess when it will drop in price?

Pricewatch is your best gauge of pricing for CPU's. You might want to check your local dealer--if there is one--because you might get a competitive price after you consider you have to pay shipping for some of those mail-order places. Another bonus is that you might get to choose your chip stepping--at least for OEM chips. Further, if you get a bad chip (notwithstanding overclocking), you have a quick way to get the thing replaced.

If you DO decide to go mail-order, remember to check http://www.resellerratings.com/ for your vendor's reputation.

As far as price drops are concerned, you won't see anything major until the XP 2000+ is released. I think they are scheduled to release it in the first couple months of 2002.

I bought a xp 1900 retail for $241 last week from ubid.
Just got it today and unlocked it.

ubid sells them all the time.
The trick is you have to find the auction where they don't have a minimum.
They were selling 12 of them in the auction.
ubid is the seller not a 3rd party.

They only sell retail amd cpu's that's all I have seen.
