can i use a celeron as an efficient processor to play games. i have 384MB of Crucial ram. will it play games well?
Basically gaming requires a good video card too... and a processor.
Mainly today anything above 600-650 mhz will do for games and according to your siggy you have a GeForce 2 MX 400 which is sort of average at this time it'll most likely wear off soon though.
Although depends on the game you play now.. Like I hear Max Payne goes crazy with the system resources, graphics as well...
For graphic intensive 3D games nowadays, you need 4 basic things for a killer gaming rig. A fairly fast processor (which the 1 gig Celeron is), a fast harddrive (like a 7,200 RPM ATA-100 unit), Lots of high quality RAM (at least 256 meg), and most importantly, a top notch video card.

Yeah a faster hardrive will get your maps loaded faster in multiplayer but a good vid card can make the difference of of reaching those riduculous frame rates tho. Jump up to a geforce 2 64 ddr ti there pretty cheap now and just under a geforce 2 ultra. i believe that its about the 50 mhz difference in the mem clock only. A good fan could remedy that.

And if you plan on playing online, broadband.
=)
I really think Broadband is one ... That should be after the rig defintely its hard playing without no good conn :)
