View Full Version : Windows - Low On Registry Space. . .(winxp)
http://home.comcast.net/~ogrex/gheyerror.jpg
this is with winxp sp2..
only thing I've found that "fixes" it is this program:
NTREGOPT (http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/)
which results in:
http://home.comcast.net/~ogrex/gheyfix.jpg
I'm having to run it at least once a day lately... and the lowest size which it can reduce the registry to seems to be slowly growing. . .
anyone know of any permanent fix for this fun-happy-interesting-usualuncalledforbsfromwindows problem?
Tried messing with registry size etc..
I've tried reformatting a bunch of times too.. comes right back.
have heard it may be a nforce mobo problem by some.. but some people get it without one..

No mention of how you modified the registry size, so I'll throw this out there. Create a new RegistrySizeLimit DWORD in the registry, following the instructions in the following MSKB article...
Understanding and configuring Registry Size Limit (RSL)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/124594/
Edit: What are you running afa chipset drivers, the v 6.86 package?

Captain was saying you have a virus or something, and I agree with him. It's time for a format and reinstall.

www.ccleaner.com
Run issue scan. (note keep running it until it finds nothing more to remove)
this is a lovely tool.

you miss the part where I said I've reformatted multiple times..so I think not and yes I checked viruses as the first step..

tried it before no help..

yes.. tried those..(tried multiple chipset drivers) have no chipset drivers installed on this format still happens..
as for registry size limit it doesn't seem to matter.. since it is filling 212megs+ daily... which it isn't even supposed to be Near that number as I've read..

I would check your hard drive. if you got another one laying around, perhaps there is a bad sector thats causing it for improper reads and such.

Is it possible that you keep catching the same virus?

I did a little looking last night(I was tired so I didn't look long)but apparently this is a somewhat common problem with Nforce drivers. People have tried installing different driver versions, which works for awhile, then starts with the bad behavior again  I'd love to know what's getting written to the registry. I've never heard of a driver doing that before.
woot!..
so.. I was just installing Diskeeper 2007 and it hit a write to registy error while installing.. I figured reg must have grown too big yet again.. tried to run ntregopt.. and got access errors while running it.. and now my computer won't boot..
this is getting old.... why even bother reformatting again when it comes right back?.. and there seems to be no solution other than maybe a new mobo..
Do you have another hard drive to try? It really sounds like your hard drive is on it's way out.

If it is anything except the Original Windows installation CD, I'd suggest getting one ;)
Just trying to make sure all the bases are covered here.
it was the diskeeper 2007 trial.. on a legit copy of winxp pro 32bit. thanks for your concern though..
I just ordered a new setup anyways.. sick of this @&*%$@ + my 8800gts needs more p0wahrr anyways
prolly won't even bother reformatting till stuff comes..

I kinda doubt it.. since it seems to be a problem with nforce drivers.. if switching to intel doesn't make it go away I'm gonna be ******ed for some strange reason I think though.

I meant, what are you using to install Windows...
I'm assuming it is legit, I was wondering if you were using a streamlined copy of windows or a burned copy. If you are, then you could run into problems unless you are using the original disc
it is the original disk. what do I have to do post a pic of my winxp cd?(you won't like it if I do..)
I don't see how it could be the problem..(cdrom drive? nah) everything else works no problems.. just seems to be a known issue with nforce4 boards.. with apparently no fix... mobo drivers installed or not
*edit* fixboot/fixmbr/chkdsk /p somehow magically let me back into winblowz.. yay for no reformat yet... WOW did I miss my widescreen lcd over my mom's crt.. gd..
well after having the new c2d system for 2 days the registry has 'magically' stopped growing to 212~megs everyday.. with the same copy of windows.

so, Fixed.. the hard way.
