I just got another cruncher for my small farm. It's an AMD XP 1600+ on an A7M266. I got it running at 1.85V for now. Should be running a little meaner in a couple of weeks. :D

From what I have seen those xp's are a worthy investment. I am looking at picking one up early in the year once the 2000+ comes out. Just gotta re-verify that my Iwill can support that and in it will go. Course then again perhaps that will serve as the perfect excuse for upgrading to a DDR based board. Keep em crunching!

That ought to spit out some units pretty fast. I went to the local computer shack this morning to see about putting something new together. There are virtually no computer stores around here that sell cpu's and motherboards. Best Buy has everything but. Comp USA has stuff I've never heard of. I found this little shop and low and behold I saw some socket a ddr boards. I asked if he had any cpu's to go with them. He doesn't speak good English, but I heard him say XP 1700 - I jumped and asked to see it. Sure enough it was an XP 1700. I asked how much as I was pulling my wallet out...."$440" My wallet quickly found its way back into my pocket! Since I had a P3 800 sitting around I got this little cheap board from him. It was the only slot1 board I've been able to find. The name is "Amptron" and it has a socket 370 and slot 1, plus everything including lan built in. He only wanted $70 so I figured what the heck. So far it's doing okay - going through install right now. Anybody ever heard of Amptron?

You usually find amptrons in those cheap little computers you can buy online.

Congrats on the new "beast", I hear those Xp's are real thoroughbreds. May it be your prime cruncher:)

Amptron isn't all that bad actually...as far as cheapo boards go. They're manufactured by the same company that makes Biostar boards which I guess you could classify as a "good generic" board.

Think it's along the same lines as PC Chips is as well.

My Abit BF6 ($86) is a Slot1 and I just got it about 2 weeks ago, from pricwatch. I'm loving it. Did a nice o/c as well..(check sig at bottom). Cooled by an ol' cheapo $19 dual fan from GlobalWin. It's crunching 24/7 and averaging 6hrs/WU.

On my Abit BE6-II, this same chip would only o/c to 928. Go figure.

Speedj i had a problem when i installed a xp 1700+ in my IWill KK266. Serious issues with it. Kept locking up after reboot. so i reinstalled windows xp and still the same problem. and that's after i updated the bios to the latest update(which is the xp cou update). so i fell in love with a MSI K7T266-RU Pro2. I've never loved a computer more since i got my brand new 8088 back when i was a kid.
