What is up everyone?
I have a question for all you over clocker maniacs.
I got a system last year as a gift. But to my dismay the computer has a closed case warranty. Meaning I can not access the inside of the case tower without breaking a seal that would void the 3 year warranty. This very much ties my hands up for doing physical modification to my system. It is a AMD 1ghz , 512mb ram, voodoo3 2000 vid card, and Gigabyte motherboard. it is already 13 months old.
Here is my question. My computer desk is right under a basement window. Would it be wise to create a duct system from my basement window that would pull in the cold dry Canadian winter air and force it right into my case vents.
My only fear is that there still might be too much moisture in that air.
anyone?

It probably might be a bit too chilly and you'd be too at risk for condensation. (that is, if the air is as cold as it is here!)
I've thought about one idea though. Thats putting a bag (huge clear trash bag or something of the sort) around your whole computer, tying it to a duct from outside with a semi-low CFM fan, and having a few small holes as output (not too much though, because you want the bag to stay inflated).
That way the air would get a chance to mix a bit with the air inside your house, keep your ambient temps the same throughout (the outer casing of your computer would be hotter than the "ambient" air coming through a duct, as you are describing), and depending on the temperature you could add more/less CFM fan speed if you wanted to keep it away from condensation levels.
Just an idea. :)

u can't break the seal to open the case,
but no one said u can't "cut open the case"
seal stays intact :P
but if your overclocking right now, then u've already voided your warranty...

That's what's Great about abits soft menu no need to break a seal as long as you can keep your temps low enough... :D
if youwere able to open your case, then you could put extra fans in it,
that would help stop condensation
for instance, i have foung that if i use a pelt on my processor, it cools great, no need for fans, right?
well, the need for fans isn't going to be for cooling, its to help condensation
if you have the correct amount of air flow and the proper air folw setup, then you can almost illiminate condensation in most cases
don't know if it would apply in your situation
good luck

just open they system, i am sure you will want to upgrade soon anyway - that voodoo is old, do you really think you will be using the same spec in 2 years?

Oh Ya ,I forgot to mention my first computer was a Compaq (LOL @ COMPAQ :p )and I also had a warranty ..I use to open my case all the time ..in my situation alls they used was a sticker that said Compaq on it and if it was broke when they came back they would know you opened it...WOW pretty tuff to get around that one  I just took it off ,put it on a non stick peace of paper that labels come on and if I had a hardware problem I'd throw it back on and call them over...I upgraded my memory and graphics card and they never said anything I just led them to believe they did it...maybe that's why they went under :D

A little cold air won't hurt anything...
