OK, I am preparing to overclock my AMD Duron 700. I have read a load of the articles and they are really helpful bar 1 point. What do I do first. How do I actually overclock it?
I know that this is probably a dumb question but it is causing me problems.
Cheers.
WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!!
.....and to the addiction:eek:
First things first is make a sig of your rig so we know how to help you. Do you have good cooling? Multiplier X FSB = ClockSpeed:D What options do you have in your BIOS?

Welcome to the forums
I would suggest reading the beginners guides on the front of overclockers.com and ask any questions that you have once equipped with the information they provide, I would not suggest attempting to overclock untill you are fully aware of whats involved..

I have a ...
CPU: AMD Duron 700
Mother Board: K7S5A-Elite Group
Voodoo 3 3000
I need more info on the rig. Just to be sure that the information that you have in your head is correct read this (http://www.overclockers.com/topiclist/index04.asp#BEGINNER GUIDES) & ask me a specific question. Take UnseenMenace's advise, I have provided you with a link(just look above:D).

I have vertually been livingin thouse beginners guides as of late. The info is correct but I will find out the specs of the mem speeds etc.
Exactly what is the info needed. My head is filled with words to check and ways to cool, can you give me somewhere to start? A checklist?
Use my sig as a guide making your own.

Cheers for your help, I have put a better sig on. I am not overclocking it today anyway, I still need to buy some cooling stuff.
Is it better to use a pencil to connect the pins or defogger? (I assume that de-fogger is the same as de-icer)
We need to know what kinda ram you got:D
Pencil trick is OK but I would rather go with a conductive ink pen or the rear windshield defoger repair kit, which is conductive high temp paint, for a crucial part of your system.
Your kinda running hot for stock speed & the duron does not have a temp diode so that particular feature of your board is not yet being used.
How about you try running Prime95? The torture test is a good way to check the stability of your current configuration & also d/l SiSoft Sandra2001 & run the cpu, multimedia & memory benchmarks & save the results for comparison when you have o/c thhat system.
