Ok, I give up on this problem and am turning to you pros to help me sort this thing out. I have my X-Fi Fatal1ity card that I have gotten to work flawlessly in XP and in Vista 32. I recently upgraded to 4G of ram, so installed my x64 version of Vista.

Since then, I have nothing but issues with x64 and my sound. I am using the latest drivers (May 30th), but when I install and reboot there is sometimes a little sound, or no sound, or screeching static. Most of the time it eventually goes to the static until a reboot.

I have searched various forums for a workaround for this issue. A lot of posts seem to tie the issue to a combination of 4G of ram and x64 with the X-Fi. Others blame the drivers, but none can come up with a fix for the problem.

Has anyone dealt with this? Any workarounds? Suggestions?

i also read alot of people are having the same issue as you are experiancing. i'm running vista 64 (ultimate) with 4gb ram, x-fi fatality and is running flawlessly. i guess its hardware related.

the only difference could be the drivers.

according to windows device manager, the drivers installed are dated 05/03/2007.

This worked for me.

I found the older 2.13 drivers on the net. Used DC Pro and removed the current 2.15, gave a reboot and installed 2.13 and its now working flawlessly.

If this is such a blatant driver issue, you would think Creative would have fixed this by now! 2.15s came out back in May and its July now with loads of people complaining on the x64 and 4GB ram platforms.

Thanks for the tip.

Ok, had the same problem as you did. Installed vista, 2.15 drivers gave me static. Found this post and said, Ahhhhh. Found some 2.13.0012 drivers threw them on and presto, sound works (even sounds better then when on XP).

Ran into a few problems while trying to make it work with lord of the rings online. First, I cant get the Creative Console to launch. Not that I really care, though it does have a built in EQ. So I went to set everything up through the control panel, found everything where it should be and made all the necessary changes. Still didn't work right in game, so I restarted the computer, go back into the game and the sound still doesn't work right... alt-tab out to check the settings and they've all been reverted to default. Reset them, restart, double check and they've defaulted again. The damn thing will not keep it's settings!!!!

Even when I set it to 5.1, the only way to get sound out of all the speakers is using cmss-3d, which is crap because LOTRO can do 3-d sound. Any thoughts? What version of the 2.13's are you using?
Dan

EDIT: I have the x-fi fatal1ty xtreme gamer and vista 64 home premium

Used the previous driver set and not the latest driver set. You can find them on www.guru3d.com if you look hard enough. The latest driver set has problems in x64 including massive static.
