Hi all, i just got my D-Tek cpu block and was wondering ...do i need to lapp it? It comes with a plastic film stuck to the bottom to protect it and when i removed the plastic it was a tadd sticky in my opinion, also it's not really that shiny, not compared to a Vantech iceberg 5 cooler i bought a while back. They say that the copper is treated to protect it from tarnishing with time, so if i lapp it this will affect the treatment, any ideas, or should i leave it has it is? Thanks for reading this.Any help will be appreciated.

if you lap it, your sanding off the treatment and it will tarnish faster. on the other hand, you will eliminate one more level of heat transfer between that treatment stuff and the actual copper. Just wipe it clean with some alchohol untill its clean and not sticky.
shininess doesnt mean flatness. I would'nt touch it unless your concerned about the heat transfer somehow. ie, if you slap it on your spreader and find the TIM uneven when you pull it off. or you have higher temps than your peers with similar equipment.
btw, welcome to our forums. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hi all, i just got my D-Tek cpu block and was wondering ...do i need to lapp it? Put a straightedge on it and look for light to shine under the straightedge. That will tell you if it's flat.
Look at the surface with a microscope or a high power magnifying glass. See the scratches (swirl marks)?. If you think you can lap better than that, then have at it.

What would be the point of even having the anti-tarnish treatment, it's not like anyone is gunna look under the block.

Perhaps it is some sort of heat transfer medium to add material to the gaps between the block and the CPU. O, wait, we call that silver paste, DOH!
