Talking about my rig in sig here...

I restarted the pc to see if I can get 3.3 stable (400-->415). It locked at restart, so I had to reset the CMOS. Even after reseting the CMOS, it wouldn't boot. After removing one stick of RAM (that is where the mb said it was locking), the system would blip on and then be off...so I'm sitting here going wtf...come on...

So I grab a paperclip and pop off my 24 pin, short a green and black...same thing...wtf is going on...all perps disconnected and the power supply won't turn on....

Ideas??

With everything unplugged it did not turn on. I unbolted it from the case and pushed it back (that is how you have to remove it from my case >.>) AND IT TURNED ON!! While it was on, I pushed it back, AND IT TURNED OFF!! I'm in the process of removing it from the case to see what is going on...

Also, the warranty is VOID as I have opened it...*sigh*...

Well, I opened it up and first thing I noticed, there is a bulging cap...I didn't notice anything else. I could replace this cap, but I doubt it is the source of the problem and something else caused it to fail...

Do I just replace this powersupply??

Eek that's not pretty :[

I'd get a new one unless you like fiddling with electronics :P

I can always fiddle with it ^.^...after I get the system back up and running.

Thideras,

Obviously there is either a short/ground problem or a wire connection problem if moving it in and out makes it run. That capacitor may or may not be the problem but it certainly helped you find another issue that would cause you problems later.

A spare power supply should resolve your problem if you have one to try. Unless you are handy at soldering electronics, I would replace it. This Corsair 520HX may suit you and it's not expensive.

I do not have a backup PSU. I will try replacing it, but I need this system to run (gaming/folding). I'm on my laptop now, which can do both of those >.>

So I am to assume that this powersupply is not to be trusted?

I've been looking at NewEgg...here is a few that I have looked at. If you could recommend one that would be great. I'm looking to spend less than 150 as I'm going to try and overnight it so I can get this thing back up and running.

That Silverstone has caught my eye. I am open to any suggestions though.

Thanks!

Thideras,

A bulged and leaking capacitor = borked power supply, kaput.

This Corsair HX520 = 40 amp single rail and probably at least if not more the output of your older OCZ and will handle what you have easily. There is a Corsair 620HX with a 50 amp single rail if you feel more comfortable. Both are very quiet, stable and rock solid. No tax, free shipping from ZZF. Both are Seasonic builds if you like modular.

Any comments on the Silverstone I linked? (second link)

I'll check those out...sec...

EDIT: The corsair 620HX is single rail?? Not according to newegg:

document.write(neg_specification_newline('+3.3@24A ,+5V@30A,+12V1@18A,+12V2@18A,+12V3@18A,-12V@0.8A,+5VSB@3A'));+3.3@24A,+5V@30A,+12V1@18A,+1 2V2@18A,+12V3@18A,- 12V@0.8A,+5VSB@3A

Or am I just reading this wrong (most likely, lol)

Never used a Silverstone but from reviews, they are top notch. There have been a few issues with certain models of Silverstones but I don't remember what models were in question.

This may help you:

Yes, they are single rail. According to Oklahoma Wolf and Jonny Guru's review, they are single rail. Rather than go through the UL tests again and documentation, it's advetised a multiple rail.

Thideras,

You have a very nice rig, the Corsair will certainly compliment it!

I use this one in mine... And its only a bit over what you wanted to spend. But that corsair should do just fine as well.

No complaints on my end about it, runs all I ask and then some.

Sorry about the PSU, if it makes you feel better, my attempts at drastically increasing my conroe's clocks didn't yield me any results. I suppose I could fry it at 3.6... or run slow memory at 3.4... But Im not sure if its worth it or not.

well that sucks majorly

i think that psu manufactures should be required by law to replace any computer hardware that is fried by the failure of the psu in question...

should we start a petition as i know i would sign it!!!

thideras

No, even if we were able to do that they would only support ones under warranty...
