How to open ZIF socket on Compaq laptop

Anyone know how to open these sockets? I don't want to break anything. The 2 tabs on the sides show arrows and a lock and unlock, but I tired sliding it just with my fingers and it didn't go.

Looks as though it would simply shift to the left (as oriented in the pics)...what lappy is it?

I tried to just slide it with just finger strenght, but it wouldn't budge. It looks like you may have to put a screwdriver in one of the slots, but it seems like it would damage the chip, so I don't really want to do it.

It's a Compaq Presario 700 series.
