View Full Version : evil Wii
alright so I've got 4 PC's in the house 2 which are wireless two which are not.
we just got a wii and we set it up to go online and whatnot.
The computers are set up with static IP's
one is .131,then .132,.133,.134
they all worked perfectly until I set up the wii
I manually configured everything making the wii's IP address end in a .135
the wii got online perfectly which was good. But now the two wireless PC's can't get on the internet. The wireless cards are apparently connected but when running mozilla it can't load any web page and AIM doesn't work (server error) ect...
I've tried changing the wireless channel from 1-11 but neither of those worked. I updated the firmware also. My router is a linksys WRT54GS firmware v4.71.1
I'm no expert in networking so what's the deal here?
EDIT: even with the wii offline, neither wireless PC can connect

the wii is wireless dude, it doesn't have a cable connection
my wii didn't like static IPs, but neither did my printer server, so i switched to DCHP and just settled with that..

How close is the wii to your router in relation to the other two wireless computers, the Wii may be killing your wireless signal if it is too close.

As mentioned, Try the Wii on DHCP, to get IP automatically.
I had no problems myself that way.
( You coudl set up a static DHCP with wii if you want constant IP)
the problem isn't the wii though. The wii is much farther than both of the wireless PC's so that can't be it.
the wii works perfectly with a static IP. It's the two computers. Originally the wii was on automatic configuration but i changed to static to see if that was the problem but it didn't do anything.

What happens when you completely unplug thw Wii from power, do the other two computers restore communications?

It's hard for me to tell from Googling, but is the Wii a G, B, or mixed device? I bet the problem is in the router changing its settings to work with the Wii. Are all your other computers wireless-G? When a B device connects to my WRT54GL router, it slows the whole wireless network down to 11 Mbps. When the B device disconnects, it goes back to 54 Mbps.
You said the problem persists even when the Wii is offline. Does that mean you've completely disabled it - e.g. pulled the power plug out? I've read that the Wii stays connected even when not "on" (in standby mode, orange light). I use third-party open source firmware with my router, so I don't know what information you can glean from yours, but if possible check the list of clients to make sure the Wii is not connected, and check the transmission rate to see if it changes. You might need to cycle the router's power to get the other computers working again if the settings are sticking.
okay to answer everybody:
as far as the type-B/type-G or w.e nintendo's customer support said all 3 will work so i used mixed.
i reverted back to automatic DHCP config, reset all the computers and the wii to auto.
this changed nothing - the wireless internet is not working except for the wii's, and the wired internet is perfectly fine.
when i took the wii offline i completely deleted my internet connections so they were all blank. I tried to access the shop and it would not let me - so yes the wii was completely offline
EDIT: I forgot to mention one thing - i updated the router's firmware version before putting the wii online. Is it possible to roll back firmware versions i would like to test that.

what kind of wireless cards are in the two computers? and you should be able to go back a firmware version.
