I lapped my blorb with 600 grit sand paper,i'm not sure if that is high enough grain but i'll be testing it on my new system xmas day.any thoughts on how it should work?I just did it to take the blue paint off and leave a shiney metallic finish.it's very smooth.

You want to start with 400-600 grit to get it flat then go 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 to get a mirror finish.

400 grit????

It would be rough! You need 1500-2000grit.

If you're going to lap and Orb start with nothing finer than 180 grit. Those things are no where near flat and you will sand your nads off trying to do it with anything finer.

Once you get it flat, then start with the fine stuff.

Nice pic Nick, what is it? where do we get it? and what is it called?

I have a blorb also, I lapped it, [took forever and a day:rolleyes: ] I used plastic bolts and nuts to attach it. I also used a piece of COPPER plate under it. (Copper Base:cool: ) Works great !!
When adding any aftermarket HSF combo, if it doesn't have a copper base I reccomend doing this.
The materials can be had at any Ace hardware for llke $5.00. Use AS or AS2 when assembling.

Ive talked to a couple people looking at Lasagna Coolers. http://www.tennmax.com/lasagna.htm
they look ok. I have a Blorb at home and I get ok performance out of this. But some of the other coolers just look better. But im more of a CPU Heatsink man, I havent looked too much into these. So im just going on testamonials ive heard from other users of this fan.

Well, one thing you could do is take the refridgerating system out of a mini fridge, epoxy a peice of silver or copper to the bottom of the coldplate so its smooth, then attach it to the front of your GPU, therefore your GPU and RAM are being cooled to VERY low temperatures.

I jump into my computer case and don my Silversink cape...

.......And sit ready to be called to action trying to figure out what Antman just said :)

I've already made the Silver orb

And My northbridge has a Lasgna that has a silver base.

And I have Ramsinks that have silver bases.

I had a blue orb and still do.

KingSlayer is correct start will 200 grit.

Even with 200 grit there is alot of sanding since the layers are very uneven as you'll see when you sand it.

So here is what I would do.
200 - 400 - 600 - 800 - 1000- 1500 and 2000 if you really want a smooth finish.

Rememebr to use waterproof sandpaper and wet it everything.

Take the fan off the blorb and then the clips.

Wet the heatsink and waterproof sandpaper occasionaly to avoid scratches.
