Back in the days when I used Intel chips (Celly 300@504) Batch numbers were important in determining which chips would overclock better than others.

Now that I have a C2D 2.66 system to build tonight, what should I be looking for? Is there a particular set of batches that overclock better?

My batch: L632F556 Pack Date 5/18/07

My E6420 OC'd easily to 3.2ghz (8x400) at 1.37 volts (may try to tinker it down a bit). No batch worries here!

Where do ya get the batch number from? is it on the box now or the chip itself?

Don't worry about the batch code thing. It's all voodoo. Even a so called "good" batch can produce marginal processors and a "poor" batch can yield a golden chip. The good thing is this: Core 2 Duos are fairly consistent. You really can't get a bad CPU.

Yeah. It's completely random except that the B2 E6400 were Conroes (basically E6600s with 2MB of cache instead of 4) and the newer E6400s are Allendales. The E6420 seems to overclock better than I've been able to with my chip, but then again I haven't tried to go any higher since last year. It may actually be possible for me to hit 3700mhz with mine. I was close enough to it already.
