Here is my story. I have a wireless router on the upper floor of my house and I want a wireless rounter on the lower floor of my house. I want to create a wireless network between the two routers so I can run wired networks off of both routers. Is it possible? I say routers b/c I have 2 wireless G routers.

it depends, using DD-WRT if you have 54g's or compatable hardware you can setup a WDS link between the two, however, i've not got this working

Well I have one 54 G and one is a cheap D Link.

with that setup you could use the dlink as the primary wifi AP, then put dd-wrt on the 54g and connect to the dlink in wireless bridge mode then connect to your computers or whatever via wired.

I have just such a network constructed and running at this moment. It has plenty of problems, but when I don't mess with it it seems to work well enough. I think that the only reason it really works well is because the two routers are the exact same model (Linksys WRT54GL) running the same version of third-party firmware (DD-WRT v23 SP1 final). I use WDS which allows both routers to act as access points, as well as support wired networks, and stay interconnected. It does, however, require that the wireless settings on both routers be identical, including the authentication and SSID.
I'm tempted to try to change the setting to something closer to what nd4spdbh2 described - have the main router (the one wired to the internet) be the access point, and have the secondary router (the one that supports the wired network on the other side of the house) simply connect to it in client mode. That might fix some of the problems I have with computers getting confused between the two APs with the same SSID, and the WDS connection delays.
It could still be possible to use real WDS between two different router models. Originally I had WDS set up between my main WRT54GL and an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station - but there were limitations.

If you goal is simply to extend the range of your wireless network, place an access point in place of the second router. There is no feasible reason to have to routers for the same network.
