Hi guys I have been doing alot a dumb crap with my computer lately and I have a couple questions

1) If you drop a cpu from 6 foot up with no plastic case....Do you think the processor is still ok? The cput landed on the core. The core looks ok.... ..and I cant see the little micros getting dislodged from a fall, but I'm hesistant to put it in my motherboard I just ordered (1.4 ghz 266fsb)

2) I cleaned off thermal compound off the cpu and it looks like the wd40 i used on the cermanic took off some of the blue shield around the core...If somthing leaked in their like wd40 is it still going to be ok?

Give me your opinion on what you would do :) use or notuse
Thanks Ron.........Ps I really want to know question 1

Well are you sure the fall from 6' didnt "remove" some of the blue shield?

I cant see how wd40 could possibly remove any of the core but I could see it removing some of the glue stuff on the side of the core if and only if you left the wd40 on for a long time. After using wd40 to clean off the grease you should always wash it off with soap (if you get wd40 on your hands you clean it off , why cause its greasy smelly crapola) and after it drys it would be nice to use a little rubbing alcohol to get all the traces off for sure.

The reason I think the core glue stuff could "maybe" be damaged by wd40 is - Get a ballon and blow it up and tie the end , then spray some wd40 onto the inflated ballon and just wait a few minutes...BOOM! the ballon pops. WD40 will actually melt the rubber and thats a fact or at least it was last time I did this! Try it
