I am moving from a computer that never rendered less than 100FPS playing WoW in widescreen mode at maxed out settings, to this 64mb Intel integrated graphic chip. Man, this sucks!

The system doesnt seem all that bad,though...so there might be hope!Below is everything the main page from the System icon in the control panel says:

Hewlett-Packard
HP D220 MT (DW984A) Intel (R)
Pentium(R) 4 2.80Ghz, 1.49 GB RAM

Now, below is the video graphics info:
Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
Its a 64mb video card

I turned all the video options to low or off in the game, but still only get 8-12 FPS.Can anyone give me some advice on getting more FPS? BTW, I am running at 1024x768 now because I didnt get any more FPS that I did in 800x600 mode, and 800x600 made the images look terribly distorted.

Anyway, can you guys offer advice?

I was looking more for advice on maximizing the potential of the syatem I am on without having to replace parts in someone elses computer. Anyone know how to optimize the graphics in WoW?

Plus, eventually I'll be bringing over the computer in my sig, so its a short-term solution

You wont be able to do much with that video.. I have somthing like it on my laptop and I can log into WoW but its unplayable due to lag.

onboard graphics are pretty much crappy for games like WoW you may as well save up $100 and buy something like a 6800 or 6600gt

You wont be able to get much out of that onboard Intel IGP

Oh well...
Guess I'll have to find a way to get my computer over to my new home. Its really bad going from 110+ FPS consistently to 8-12FPS.

Try updating the IGP driver, from the specs it's probably a couple years old.

yeah...I built my roommate a cheep WoW machine...1 gig RAM (333mhz actually by mistake) s939 a64 @ 2.4ghz integrated 6100 and she runs it at 1024 with 2xAA and everything on high while playing itunes in the background.....so it's definitely the fact that your video is intel integrated because even a 6100 runs it no problems.

I thought WoW only rendered 60 FPS max, I have a system that is above and beyond the required specs and I can't get it any higher, it will simply cap out at 60.

This helped me...

Remove as many mods that you can... remove as many on-screen frames as you can. The action bar... remove that. Any huds... git rid of them.

On a PC I run the FPS jumps from 19ish to 30ish when I hid the whole HUD for a screeny. When I discovered what a huge difference that made I removed as many frames as I can and got 5FPS out of it.

but all and all the vid card you have is crap for wow.

I believe this is true.

If you have v-sync enabled in game the max FPS is whatever your refresh rate of your monitor.

Meh, just grab a good AGP card as suggested, onboard graphics won't really cut it, it's awful for gaming.

This is true I've gotten 80+ fps in Wow..you just have to turn off v-sync...but usually it;s a good idea to leave it on because you'll get tearing when you move....turn it off you'll see what I mean.

I usually have ~110 FPS everywhere I go. Isn't there a theory that your "human eye" can't tell a difference after 60 FPS? I find that to be horse hockey. If I set my monitor to 60Hz, and turn on v-sync to stabalize at 60 FPS. Wow, what a huge difference. I can't even run FRAPS which puts me at 30 FPS because from 110 to 30, feels like the game is unberably lagging.

On your topic though, your running onboard video card, you can't have high expectations.

Strange that when I had the 21" CRT of death at 85Hz refresh, powered by SLi'd 7800GT's heavily overclocked, it capped at 60fps. Dunno, I'll turn v-sync off when I get home and see what happens...

Hmm, I played WoW a while back on the laptop in my sig. It only has an Intel integrated G945. WoW ran at a solid 25-35 FPS anywhere I'd go. Granted it is a dual core Core Duo, but your P4 shouldn't be that much of a slouch. Have you tried eliminating all the background programs and such?

I'll be damned... 140fps with no v-sync. I knew the 8800gtx was overkill for WoW.

Depends on your resolution and what your doing. If your playing in 1920x1200 and raiding with 25 people. In a boss fight you may go down to 40-50. In my opinion, I wouldn't consider an 8800GTX overkill for WoW.

Quite true. 140ish in Arc at 1600x1200. We'll have to wait until Sunday to see what it's like in Kara.
