Well, while I was on the forums around noon, my temps went to 55 from the ususal 35. Needless to say, shut down at hyperspeed and tore it all apart.

Mr. Leufken is probably a really nice, and knowledgable man, but that remark on the front of his web page is downright dangerous. I no longer stand behind using nail polish to cover your bits when direct die cooling. I opened up the block and there were two resistors with the coating(nail polish) bubbled up/cracked. The block had made a hissing noise during shutdown...high frequency electricity running through the water. No, it wasn't boiling. And yes it was high quality polish...my wife buys the best I can afford.

I'm sorry if anyone has followed my lead from the posts I'd made earlier, but I would HIGHLY recommend that you replace the nail polish with a good epoxy. IMMEDIATELY.

Live and learn. At least the t-bird isn't fried. I'm using the same machine right now, just using my copper block. And now my overclock/unlock is back!!!

I think I'll have a drink to that!

Great idea!

I had a feeling there were going to be problems with Leufken's direct die cooling.

That makes no sense. I have sold close to 200 now and problems have been very low. I did have a guy have a problem once with nail polish- HE USED A METALLIC FLAKE SILVER COLOR!.

Nail polish is very inert and has a pretty high vapor point. Are you sure you did not have an air pocket or your pump stopped? Also, you should have contacted me so I can investigate the claim. Or is it possible you were removing old 'artic silver' or some other conductive paste that got pushed into the resistor packs of the top of the cpu?

DO NOT USE EPOXY!!! Antifreeze and water wetter will break it down over a period of appx. a month (It will turn black and flake/peel off possibly jamming your pump or block). Use multiple coats of nail polish- WITHOUT METAL FLAKES :)

Hey Mr. Leufkens.
I've never used any silver pastes, and I cleaned the processor first (anally so) and let it dry in the oven (150f). When I investigated, the polish was bubbled up around the one component, with a tiny slit on the side of the bubble where it finally could stretch no more.
Do you think the component was failing in the first place?

I was very lucky in that the processor works still, even without that component! I removed the charred center, but left the side contacts in place incase each 'bar' made more than one connection.

Hope you can find an answer, I was lucky...someone else may not be so. Let me know if I can furnish any more information.

*edit* I rechecked oven temp with a thermometer, it's actually 122F.
