So this is why the 20GB was killed off? I would rather have seen them drop the 60GB and 20GB $100 so that the 20GB would be the same price as the 360. Instead they keep the $599 pricepoint for the 80GB, another bad decision IMO, especially seeing as how you could replace it with a notebook 120GB or more drive for the same $100 pricepoint  , they'll learn one day, maybe...

As long as it's a notebook drive yes.

Are they Serial ATA, or ATA 6? I've got a mess of ATA 6 drives lying around. I'm considering getting a PS3 soon for Tekken, and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

wow not even a year after release and they're bringing out new models...thats faster than microsoft...I thought part of the point of consoles was that they stayed static for a hand full of years.

All this one's got is a bigger HDD. No huge upgrade here.

UPDATE:

BAD BAD BAD BAD news.

80GB PS3 does not have the PS2 chip in it AKA the Emotion Engine, will be software compatibility only.... I say avoid it like the plague.. Get your 60GBs NOW while they still have the PS2 CPU.

WOW, thats unacceptable. and i can gtd. uninformed consumers will purchase the 80gig model thinking it is everything and better than the 60gig model. to only find out their $600 investment was WRONG.

oh so thats how they're cutting costs...didn't they do that in Europe at launch?...I guess it should have been expected they'd slowly phase it out everywhere else...way to be sneaky about it Sony.
