Hello peoples... This question is for my cousin actually... he has a gateway :o With a P4 1700, visiontek GF3, SBLive, 128 PC400 RDRAM... when he starts up RTCW the sound is delayed by one second almost exactly... even on the intro movie... I tried fiddling with the hunkmegs and soundmegs but no go. Oh and more importantly is that Quake 3 works just fine :eh?: (same engine) Any ideas....
It might be a direct X thag! what version of Dx your cousin have. reinstall game and sound drivers and try it again. windows update might fix some stuff never hurts.

dx8.1....we've even gone so far as to reformat and install win98se again... I think I'll give that another go.... I can't see it being hardware... because it's only that game... I don't know:confused:
u try other sound settings? SBlive is the card correct. It might be the card. try it in your system. Wow fresh install! okay did you search for any patches that might be on the net.

Yeah I checked for patches and the like... I'm stumped:confused: Him and I both have GF3's and sblive's... mine are a little different... but still my proc is slower and my comp can play it just fine... As far as being a hardware problem... I really can't see how... EVERYTHING (and I do mean everything) else works great... even quake 3 which uses the same engine.
try posting/searching at planetquake they may already have the answer.

Good idea thanks :)
better idea I am looking here

found this here
I think it is laughable that customers using SoundBlaster Live! and SoundBlaster Audigy cards have to go into the system settings for those cards and reduce their performance levels to play RTCW. What were the creators of RTWC thinking? This is a 2001 game with 1989 sound technology. As I played the game and finished it, all I could do was shake my head in disbelief that the sound code was so poorly designed. I hope this gets patched soon because "new" games should work well with "new technology" and not force the customer to seek the lowest common-denomenator performance scheme for their systems to make the game work. The music was fine, but the sound and speech schemes are very, very poorly implemented.

finally it is start run dxdiag adn move the sound acc lower and test to point it works correctly. I really hope this works.
or this for more memory to the sb not sure try above first.
In Audio - advanced - Turn audio switch one step back from full. Also, reallocate more memory to the soundcard by writing in the console:
\com_soundmegs 64 (no more than 25% of your total ram, I have 256)

i had that same problem with DOD, but on a format and reinstall i found that it was Direct X causing the problem, now all of my sound is right on time.

Maybe Gateway screwed with Direct X or put on a different version. I would go with 8.1 shouldn't have any more problems.
