Hi all, I just got my Radeon 8500 OEM. The card run's at default speed (250/250), and I'm using the drivers that came with the vidcard.

3D Mark 2001: 6833

T-Bird 1200@1463MHz
EPoX 8K7A
256MB DDR RAM
40 GB IBM GXP 75
Win 2000
Is this score ok?

Where can I get the best drivers?
Also on the back of the box it came in, it say's that the RAM DAC is 350MHz, what is that?

Thanks....

Thanks a lot! :)

Did the color of the stars in the forum change from yellow to orange, or is it just my new vidcard?

Hey Dissolved try the 22.80 drivers on your card ,your scores kinda low? You beat me in most bench's but my score is higher.

Ok, I have no idea why, but after I changed my vidcard I'm able to run my CPU @1500MHz rock stable. :D I have never been able to do that before....

The vidcard doesn't overclock very good :( 270/550MHz, is all it will do.... Sucks, but hey, my 3D Mark score is 3x higher than before.... Take a look!

http://gamershq.madonion.com/products/orb/?3d2k1_details.shtml

I Am able to get 7372, but there are some flick's in the looby scene.

BTW Does any of you know how to enable TRUEFORM in CS?

Higher RAMDAC frequencies enable higher screen resolution and refresh rates.

Has nothing to do w/ picture quality tho'. That will depend on the filter.

Just out of curiousity what are you running your FSB at? At 154, I can get 8100 with my system.

You score seems great imo, when I first ran 3dmark2k1 with my 8500 retail I was simply happy to get the Nature test to run. haha

But after benchmarking it for about a week I just stopped and won't benchmark until the next driver set is released. If you havn't go to www.rage3d.com and check out the tweaking sections for the radeon, and see the radeon 8500 forums. There is lots of great info there.

I'm running @150MHz FSB. I'll be sure to check out Rage3d.com, thanks for the link. :)

In case you were still wondering about RAMDAC here is a more detailed description.
RAMDAC = random access memory digital - analog convertor
Computers interpret the data in digital form and monitors need to receive analog information. SO hence the digital - analog convertor. Your computer sends the digital data to the RAMDAC to which it then converts the data to analog and thens sends that data on it'sway to the monitor via its cable.
At todays current graphics cards they implement a 350MHZ RAMDAC which determines the max. on the resolution and refresh rates. Max resolution will be 2048 x 1536 while using a refresh rate of 75hz and having a max refresh rate of 240hz at a resolution of 640 x 480.
The RAMDAC of 350 MHZ will be around for a while considering most average consumer monitors use only 1280 x 1024 resolution.
