yeah bump the vcore back down. which mobo you using with the 1700+? try it again in safemode f8 then see what happens.

one thing to double check is that the heatsink isn't sitting on the lip of the socket! what does the bios temp read at 133 fsb.

42C idle in the bios! ouch that sounds like your problem. I would double and triple check the hsf. I run my 1.2 at 10.5x133 and it almost never goes above 41C under load. my advice is to get another heatsink or better thermal compound. what is the standard hsf they give you with the xp?

edit I can't read so you have a hs with teh delta black label is that correct? can't believe those temps with a black label.

take teh mobo out and use a flash light to double check while no pressure on the hs push is forward a while the clip has no pressure. don't go kill the chip. don't use the pad either they suck. shack stuff is fine if you don't have AS2 close by. use rubbing alchol to clean all of the pad off. the pad is really sticky.

Take a look at this pic...do you see where the clip is showing thats the part you snap into place directly below that is the portion of the hsf that is cut out. If you look at you socket there is a part that kind of sticks out...the part thats missing from the hsf needs to line up with the socket "bulge". Then the hsf should fit without any restrictions it should be making good contact with the entire core this way... I hope this makes sense  .

read this (http://www.overclockers.com/tips120/index07.asp) and read how to install thermal grease (AS2) (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm)

If you install the cpu&hsf without a heatpad or any type of thermal grease you will destroy the chip.

Toothpaste? hahaha. I bet it would leave a nice minty smell when it burned up.
