View Full Version : e6600 shot up 10c with new bios?

I upgraded my bios on my ASUS p5n-e sli motherboard from the default 0401 to the newest 0608. I had to redo the overclock, the new bios was set to the default. With the same settings in place, my e6600's idle went from 32-34c to 40-42c. Under load, it's not quite as big of a difference, where it was ~57c, it is now, ~59c. It's mid july which could account for a couple of degrees(?), but I keep my thermostat locked at 73F year round. Anybody have a similar experience? Also what is a good voltage to set your CPU? With my FSB @ 362x9 (3.26Ghz) It seems like I have to have it set @ 1.48 volts to keep it stable.:confused:

It may the reading just became more accurate.

What program(s) are you using to read the temps?

Core Temp and SpeedFan. Getting load temps with prime95 on the "max heat" (middle) torture test. Core Temp/Speed Fan show EXACTLY the same temps, and both noticed the increase after my bios update. Hey, sort of side question, could the reason I have to over volt have anything to do with the fact that I have an el-cheap-o 450watt power supply? Would this cause Vdroop? (I don't really grasp the concept of vdroop, ive just heard the term a few times, apparently it causes your voltage to go down?)

how about loading up intel thermal analysis tool to check temps also? it seems like temps just became more accurate.. unless your on water with like 20*c ambients i dont see how you would idle at 32*c

couldn't ever make TAT work. It gave me some crazy error, so I gave up because i found SpeedFan. I would tell you the exact error message, but Im at work right now. Also, people gloat on here all the time about sub 30*c idle temps w/ air cooling all the time. Are they lairs? or do they just have a better heat sink than me?

(Lotsa braggers in the reviews here too that say thier 6600s idle between 26*c and 29*c with this HSF)
Ive read tons of your posts on here (nd4spdbh2) and you seem to know your stuff. I hope you are right in saying that ~32*c temps are low.
