I am about to upgrade from AMD64 4000+ to Intel. I am really interested in the Intel Q6600 G0 stepping CPU. I have ordered, but have not yet received, a Gigabyte P35C DS3R motherboard. I already have purchased, and have on hand, Mushkin DDR2 800 memory, 1 gb sticks x 2. I already have ordered, and have received, a Zalman 9500 heatsink for the CPU. Originally, I had planned on upgrading to a Conroe E6600, but the price reductions on July 22 make going to quad core more appealing. My question is, do you think a Zalman 9500 will provide sufficient cooling for a Q6600 G0 stepping CPU? Thanks for your advice and assistance. Overclockers are the most knowledgeable about these issues. Thanks again.

Do you plan on overclocking?

and is this for gaming?

i'm a hardcore gamer - i recomend the E6850, but to save $ the E6420 (you really don't even need E6850).

as for cooling - do not skimp - if you plan to OC, TR 120 Extreme.

A zalman 9500 will be sufficient, unless you also have a whopping great video card, such as an 8800. I'd go with a Scythe Infinity, TR Ultra-120, or anything else that is going to struggle to fit in your case and uses 120mm fans (!).

if you dont oc the 9500 might be ok... simply cause its 2 heat pipe vs 4 for a u90/u120. IMO i would go for a something with more heatpipes for a quad core and come ocing.

Not true i have a mid tower with a zalman 9500. and a 8800GTX, and it fits just fine, the graphics card is in the top spot. And there is plently of room between the two no worries at all.

Never heard of the TR 120 Extreme who makes it?

also for th topic starter i would let you know how my cooling is but i never used the stock heatsink, and i have a different cpu, but in tense gaming situations and being overclocked it hasn't broke 60, and that good for my cpu.

yea thats the hs and yes its loads better the the 9500/9700. if your not ocing and just want a silent cooler either would be nice but you can get the same perforance of the 9700 with the plan u90 or u120 with some slow cfm fans.

Work a grave shift and just woke up. Yes, I do plan to attempt an overclock to at least 3.0. So you guys don't think the Zalman 9500 will get the job done? From what I see, looks like the Thermaltake Ultra 120 is the preferred heat sink by you guys. Hope that fits in my Lian Li PC-61 case.

Yeah you need to check into the fit. The extreme is very tall.

Edit: 160.5mm tall.
