beside looking at the chips and reading the brand off them?

Sisoft Sandra will somtimes be able to ID the chipmaker, as will CTSpd.

sandra tells you and if you search there are several programs out there if I find it on my HD I will attach one of them.

no its not i looked all over it and no programs will tell me lol

if there is no brand printed on it, and neither CTspd nor Sandra wil identify it, then I can safely say you have Brand X RAM. :)

I'd say replace it- if a program can't read the brand, then it's got an incomplete or missing SPD module on the chip itself- usually an SPDless RAM will work just OK at stock speeds, but crap out when you try to OC it.
