I have a prescott 3.2Ghz processor and I'm trying to look it up in the intel processor finder. They have a 3.2 and 3.2E listed and I don't know what the E stands for.

Thanks for any help

not all but some 3.2ghz have 1mb of L2, but the 3.2 was the first one released. 3.2e came out later there really isnt much difference between them. though the 3.2e's all have 1mb of l2 with a few having 2mb's and 65nm instead of 90nm, some 3.2's are .13nm and 90nm.

really to find your cpu your going to need the sspec off the cpu itself. Either that or you could use cpuz to get the L2 cache it has and stepping of the cpu, that would narrow it down but not show the one you have per intel sspec finder.

Ok thanks, I should have mentioned that this is a skt 478 processor. It does have 1mb L2 cache. So mines a 3.2E

no not really the 3.2's and 3.2e's for skt478 both have 1mb. what you need to do now is download cpuz and get the stepping of the cpu, that way you can use that to narrow it down to which one. there is no telling though it could be a 3.2 or 3.2E.

Not to argue Evilsizer, but I have a 3.2 right here with 512kb L2 cache.
It's a Northwood. I think the 3.2e was a prescott.

Think Peepaw is right:
The 3.2 is a Northwood C processor, having 512 kbyte L2 cache and manufactured in .13 micron.
The 3.2E is the first Prescott series, adding SSE3, having 1 Mbyte cache and manufactured in 90 nm. This one has several steppings differing only in power requirements.
Later Prescott's that Evilsizer is referring to have an F postfix or a 5xx/6xx denotation, and no longer use Socket 478.

i know your not but im just using info from intels site, from the sspec finder

SL7L5 3.20 GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 90 nm D0 1 MB 478 pin
SL7KC 3.20E GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 90 nm D0 1 MB 478 pin
SL7E5 3.20E GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 90 nm D0 1 MB 478 pin
SL6WG 3.20 GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 0.13 micron D1 512 KB 478 pin
SL6WE 3.20 GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 0.13 micron D1 512 KB 478 pin
SL792 3.20 GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 0.13 micron D1 512 KB 478 pin
SL7B8 3.20E GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 90 nm C0 1 MB 478 pin
SL79M 3.20E GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 90 nm C0 1 MB 478 pin
SL88K 3.20E GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 90 nm E0 1 MB 478 pin
SL7PN 3.20E GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 90 nm E0 1 MB 478 pin
SL8K2 3.20E GHz N/A N/A 800 MHz 90 nm G1 1 MB 478 pin

while the difference with the the cache/ die size is the core used. Northwood vs presshot that was not the OP's question. has shown by intels table there is a 3.2 that is 1mb 90nm like i talked about before.

"Difference between 3.2 and 3.2E ??? "

/\ That was the topic. So the difference between a 3.2 and a 3.2E is that one is a Northwood and the other is a Prescott.:)

How about we are both right?
If I am mis understanding you please opine.:)

Almost forgot, mine is a SL6WG.
