Im having trouble with the dx10 patch for company of heroes. Im running everything on high/ultra and it runs great, but when I use the direct3D 10 option everything runs a lot slower and none of the bullets/explosions show up. I have current drivers installed. Any suggestions?

ok im gonna dl them now. Just tried the 162.22 drivers and still it lags a little. Im confused because I really dont see a difference in gameplay and its running kinda crappy. I guess Ill wait and see how the 163.11 drivers perform before I kick myself for dropping 300 bucks on a brand new gpu.

ok well i just finished playing with the beta drivers and I really cant tell the difference. BTW thanks redrummy that did the trick. Besides a few more objects and shadows it looks basically the same. I was excited though that I could finally test out my machine with dx10 but I guess Ill have to wait for crysis to really see a difference :(

So with those dx10 games are you able to run everything at max? I guess Im confused, is dx10 supposed to help your system or what. Its funny all I've heard is dx10 games are slowing down some sweet systems and well thats depressing.

Dx10 is the new DirectX. I don't know if you remember when Dx9 came out..well just think when Oblivion came out. Your remember how it brought systems to its knees? Until better cards came out? Well thats how the games are for Dx10. Dx10 brings a few new lighting features and things. Not a huge improvement over Dx9 but what it does bring is new game engines, that have better graphics and are more demanding. Same thing that happens with DX9.

The important new thing about DX10 is that it is not backwards compatible, Vista has a seperate DX9 install. Dx10 thus elimentates a lot of legacy code that no longer used. So its more streamlined. This allows for either game engines to run faster, or for more enhanced game engines to come out that will run at the speed of a Dx9 engine or so.

Its like Dx10's streamlining gives the developers 5FPS more to play with, so they can either have their game more 5fps or they cane make it look prettier and it will lower the game by 5 FPS..but the +5fps that Dx10 makes it even.

*5 fps was a made up number, just as an example.

smart move is to keep your previous dx9 card, or buy the fastest dx9 since they are cheap now and wait until the next gen of cards come out.

There's gotta be something wrong with the DX10 patch for this game.

On my monitor's res (see sig) I can play Call of Juarez and Lost Planet on max settings and have great framerates, no stutters. Even the World in Conflict RTS beta, Stalker, FarCry, you name it. With Lost Planet however, with HDR on, I did have to turn shadows to medium and maybe one other settings but that was it, nothing compared to what I had to do with COH!

After I updated COH to the latest patch - FUBAR! So OP you're not alone. I have to turn everything practically down to medium and some on Low. And this game does not have all that much better graphics than anything else I've played. Maybe it's the mechanich and math behind the RTS, I dunno. Maybe it's so many things moving around on screen... Just doesn't make much sense to me, graphics are graphics...

COH is the only game so far that has given me problems with my rig. I am not sweatin' it. I think it's the way COH was not programmed for DX10 out of the box and this patch is FUBAR'd.

So OP.. don't fret! Wait until games written exclusively for DX10 like Crysis and Bioshock come out and see how your machine handles them.

Don't rely on a DX9 game's DX10 patch to determine the power of your rig.

I seriously doubt that COH can be that demanding. Again, my eyes don't see anything so great about its graphics compared to the other games I play. Maybe it's DX10.

A little off topic but just to try to buff your point. Its the similar with consoles. When a new consoles hit, the first few games are always shaky as developers try to find what code fits best with that hardware. Same way here. Developers are still trying to figure out what works best.

Ya I sort of bought that 8800 on an impulse, but Im glad I did. I was runnin a 6800 and needed something better. I think you guys are right, I guess we will have to wait for a real dx10 game. In the meantime I have been downloading lost planet so maybe this will be a better experience. Anyone know if theres gonna be a crysis/bioshock demo?

Keep us posted about your Lost Planet experience - if it's any like mine, you'll be able to max settings with HDR and wonder why COH gave you problems. heh. Except I had to like turn shadows and maybe 1 other thing to medium.
