View Full Version : Quick question...
I just got another computer folding (woohoo). But it seems to be working on the same exact wu as my other comp. Is this real or is it memorex? (and if you know where that expression comes from, you're way too old :D )
If you did a clean download/install of the program then its not the same wu just a similar one. Now if you copied the folder from one comp to another then its possible I downloaded and installed a new folding@home client on my second rig just to be sure.
I did a clean download and install. But it looks like the exact wu. Its called ABLp41. I've never had this one before, so I figured the odds of getting the same one which I've never had before, on two machines, at the same exact time, is more than just a coinkidink.
Each wu that you download only calculates a very small portion of the folding process for a single protein. It will show you working on the same protein but the work that you are doing now is a different portion and usually further on in the folding process.
Cool. Thanks guys.
And what are you doing on the forum? You're taking precious cpu cycles away from folding :D
I do most of my folding at night.

Like Ploaf said just more work on the same protein.
I guess they were different after all ...
JetMech, you're only as old as you feel ;) I feel like I'm only 15 eventhough that was many many many years ago

And you know that's right. I have those age blues every now and then. I'd love to be around for the 30ghz Athlon/Pentium whatever.
Ok time for a logic lesson: According to Moore's law, we should have 30GHz in less than 5 years. Since men live to be 70, on average, as long as you are less than 65, you should be able to see the chips. You must be under 65, since the average person over 40 doesn't know a computer mouse from a foot pedal, and your presence in this forum indicates that you can at least tell that difference ( :p ), I would guess that you have plenty of time to see the 30GHz chips :D

I blow a hole in that over 40 rumor. At age 47 I built my first system. A 486DX2/66 from salvaged parts. Between those parts and Win95s dislike for ISA non-plugnplay, I learned a lot about troubleshooting. Naturally upgrading was an immediate necessity and I haven't stopped yet. ALL of my family members and 5 fellow workers are running WesleyComps. Three of my kids and 2 of mine will be upgraded by Christmas. My kids love my obsession with top of the line hardware because they get the hand me downs. No one in my immediate fam has ever bought a part and I'm always broke.:D Wow. Went off on a tangent. Must be those old brain cells (you know, the ones that herb killed):D. Don't try that at home kids. The rumors are true.

Boy, ain't that the truth! My daughter also has the most pwerful computer of all her friends, thanks to my hand-me-downs! I'm 45, so I know what you mean about the old brain cells :D . Of course most of my contemporaries that I work with can hardly tell a mouse from a speaker though. I built my first computer from scratch at the young age of 40 and haven't looked back since. One good thing about the age though; I make a lot more money than I did when I was a teenager or in my twenties, so I am not too hampered by funds to indulge in my hobby.:D
I take it you're not married muddocktor :D That usually hampers the bigger and better comp more than lack of funds

Yes, I'm married, but she lets me indulge anyways!:D I just give her some Walmart gift certificates when I get them as bonuses during the year. So far I've given her about $1500 this year and it keeps me getting goodies for my computer addiction.:D
Ah yes, the good old tactic of why don't you go buy something over there while i look at stuff here ;)
