I bought a no brand optic mouse, it works very well on white table but not well in black table. sometimes when I move the mouse, the cursor is not moving at all. Do u guys experience the same thing too? If I change the current LED to a brighter one would that be help? Any modification I can do to fix the problem?

My name-brand (got it last year for x-mas, still works!) breakosoft mouse worked fine on my black desk, until it ate away at the surface!!!

Could be since the LED, like you said does not have enough power/intensity.

how glossy is the black table?
if it is flat black it should not reflect very much light and so the cheap optics in the mouse would not pick up the reflection very well

Would glass help that Yorik?

A beveled-edge smoked glass mouse pad....Tre chic!

There can be no reflection at all. If there is ANY reflection, you will have problems. No glass, no mirrors, no glossy surfaces, no non-matte plastics. Only matte surfaces, otherwise, you'll have problems like the ones you're experiancing, as well as jumpyness and loss of dpi.

Just as well I guess, that glass would be cold.
Though I'm still hanging with a good ol' ps2 scroll mouse. No extended drivers messing up something else and giving XP a chance to crash...not that it would :eh?:

You shouldn't use an optical mouse on a black surface. Because, if you'll remember from science class, black abosorbs all colour and reflects none, so the laser can't take an accurate picture, and thus the mouse doesn't move.

I am using the underside of a mousepad (its a kind of neoprene material, slightly textured)...its Black..it is the best working surface I have found. I don't think it really has alot to do with the color, mostly the finish the surface has. My experience has been: less shine=better response

Just my $.02

I had someone give me a black Dell mouse pad which kind of looked cool.

I took it home had difficulties using it with my optical mouse and I was like "Why is my mouse sometimes not moving at all or when it moves the mouse cursors runs back and forth like crazy."

I finally found out black is not a good colour for optical mouse now I just use nothing and put it on the keyboard table works great like that lots of room.

You can use any optical mouse on any surface, but chances are it won't work right.

My experiance with Micro$oft mice is that they crap out quickly, and you have to buy another one. The cables are poorly made, that's the problem I guess.

I had a Micro$oft Optical mouse, it was the stardard shape, white, just optical. It crapped out after 2 weeks. SO I bought another one, and it, too, died after a few weeks. I tossed those 2 crap-piles in my drawer, bought a Logitech Mouseman Wheel optical, and havn't had any problems yet. That was 10 months ago.

And congrads on your 4th!

I use a cloth covered sun mousepad (came with a server at work) with a logitech optical and it's completely smooth. It is purple and grey though not black ;)

I prefer a ms trackball optical. it has great response, and my 3 year old daughter can even use it.

I had problems with the Ratzpad and my Logitech Dual optical, until I did some sanding to dull the surface a bit. Black is fine, just the reflectivity level caused issues. :)

its proven that you should not use the optical mouse on a blakc surface, logitech recommends a white sheet of paper (non glossy), so either that or at office depot theres this mouse pad that i got for 20 bucks that has certain grooves optimized for optical mice and is sort of all different colors.
