Bought some 10lb density memory foam on Ebay for a project on June 28th
It was shipped DHL on July 2
It was delivered to the local USPS POST OFFICE on July 10th at 2:58pm and that's where the tracking stops.
I't now sitting on a pallet at the local USPS office and could take up to 30 more days from July 10th to make it from Sarasota to my house in Sarasota.
This DHL/USPS co-share mailing is from what I understand the cheapest way to mail a package. I've never even heard of this arrangement with DHL and the post office, but I can tell you it really sucks.
Also, once the parcel from DHL is at your local post office, the tracking changes, you add an H to the DHL number and that's your USPS tracking number, so for good measure to annoy the shipping recipient, the USPS on their tracking shows me this:
Label/Receipt Number: H829 1016 95xx
Status: Delivered
Your item was delivered at 2:58 PM on July 10, 2007 in SARASOTA, FL 34232
So if you guys really want to complain about UPS or Fedex, try using DHL/USPS co sharing the package delivery to really have something to complain about. http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/moody.gif
Only G-d and the mailman know when I will receive this package, good thing I really don't need it badly. I can say I won't ever use this Ebay seller again, because the way he ships items is outrageously slow. The USPS contract with DHL is that they have 30 days from the time they get the DHL package to deliver it to the person.

o yeah, this is horrid. I sent a christmas gift to a friend straight from thinkgeek.com, and they used this method. It got to my friends post office within 2-3 days, and then said "delivered to post office". I told my friend about it to make sure he got the package, and he said he had not recieved a package. So he went to the post office the next day to ask, and they said there was no package there for him. It took another week for the post office to deliver the freaking package.
btw, DHL might be the absolute worst delivery company, in my experience. We tried using them at work. We often deliver drawings and other documents to construction sites, and have run in to several problems with DHL not delivering packages, even after several attempts in the same day.

Bizarre - for international shipments, DHL are who we've had the most success with - all done on time inside 3 working days usually from UK to US...
Maybe you get better service from them when you're not using the uber-cheap method.

i usually get good service from dhl, however, i'm using dell waybills as my method of shipping (GRRRR to gx270's at work) it comes but due to the delivery route we're one of the last delivering addresses so i get it at around 2 - 3 pm when its close to time to go home :(

Read my post (#7) in this thread (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=517168&highlight=DHL). I will never use DHL if I can help it.
I think every courier has their problems. My biggest beef was with Purolator, when I bought my laptop. Now they had delivered packages to me many times before, never any issues but this time I check the online tracking, it said the package was on the delivery truck, so I waited and waited and it never arrived. So at like 6:30pm I called them and they said the driver couldn't find my place so I arranged for them to try again the next day, again, same thing happened. So I called up again, this time I was quite frustrated, they said the same thing again, driver couldn't find my place. Now this is completely ridiculous, its not an apartment or anything, it a BIG house, one of like 9 on the road, clearly visible. But this time they would not attempt to deliver again, they said I had to come get it at the sorting center(which is about 60 miles away!!).
So after nearly loosing my cool with the rep I drove right down there like a mad man to get there before they closed, this was Friday afternoon and I didn't want to wait till Monday, and once I get there they can't find the package!!!!!I ended up waiting there about an hour while they searched all over the facility to find it. That was the last time I used their service :bang head

Wow, that's crazy!! Thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely stand clear of that shipping method.

I think its all about who's in your area..
Never had an issue with USPS, love them. My mail-man just retired and has been replaced by a lady, so we shall see how she is.
I love the Fedex driver..it seems ever time she comes and delivers something thing she is in a different vehicle. One time it was an unmarked van. Once a budget rental truck. Another time an older brown truck(I think a retired UPS truck). Finally once she actually came in a Fed Ex marked truck.
UPS guy usually gets packages to my house by 9AM..only when its a motherboard or something does it seem he comes after lunch.
I've only gotten 2 DHL packages and both times they smelled like smoke, but besides that, no complaints.
I think I've been lucky to date..

A lot of FedEx drivers are independent contractors. They have to buy their own trucks.

The mailman has no influance in this at all, in fact we have a new mail carrier here and he's the best we've ever had. The issue is my package is sitting on a pallet here in Sarasota and has yet to taken off the pallet. USPS has 30 days to deliver the DHL alliance parcel.
I never had an issue with DHL, but this DHL/USPS alliance is a pretty pathetic and about the worst way one can mail an item when it comes to speed.
Matter of fact, since this is an Ebay item and its very possible this item will not make it to me within the Paypal 45 day time-frame to initiate a dispute.
This is how my situation is not a good one:
Paid June 28
USPS has until August 10th to deliver this UPS/USPS alliance package
That's exactly 43 days from the date of payment.
Paypal gives you 45 days and this gives me a 48 hour window. IMHO, Ebay should not allow sellers to use this DHL/USPS method of shipping as it can negate any Paypal buyers protection.

okies ... for what its worth ... i work for a company who uses this service regularly ... from what ive been told (we had a HUGE issue over the last 2-1/2mos) ... due a recent mngmnt/structure/reorganization change @DHL this is a fairly common occurance right now
dhl is picking up ... claiming delivery ... but its usually sitting on their docks somewhere ... this can be comfirmed by looking at your shippers "shipping date" vs the "postmarked date" on your package when you receive it check
the whole transaction between dhl pickup and delivery to usps is "supposed" to occur the same day w/in a couple of hours
