I currently have a Thermaltake Volcano 6u+ which is pretty damn noisey. Sounds like a damn vacuume cleaner! At first I was ok with it but lately its been getting annoying. I can't even sleep with my computer on. Is there a good HSF out there thats as good or even better than the volcano that doesn't make too much noise? or do you guys have any suggestions on how to get rid of the noise? Thanx

OK!!! Now that it is in cooling here is my idea:D

Use a duct to pull cold air from the outside with a bigger fan. You can find an 80mm with the same CFM but a lot quiter.

I suggest a Velocity Stack design to be able to get the airflow organized in a more cohesive air column & no back pressure. Keep an open mind & try it out.

Is that a coke bottle sonny?
Makes a pretty cool looking duct!

If you wanna get some venturi effect from it though, you prolly need to take another 1/4 to 1/2" off the top to the point where the curve reverses.
Sheesh, we'll be buying chromed street rod carburettor intake trumpets for our fans soon ..... :D

Thanks for the kind words guys! Anybody can make it. It's so simple & effective that you will enjoy making it for friends, well maybe after he 8th one I started to teach them how to build it:p

RoadWarrior - Yup! It's a 2Ltr. Coke bottle fitted to a 80mm fan.

You guys have any container suggestions for a 120mm fan? I'm including a pic to show you people how to mount it to the fan.

The Glaciator II has incredible performance with low noise. Definately the best noise/performance heatsink on the market.

Thanks for all the info. I think Ill give the coke bottle with a 80mm fan a try.

For a 120mm fan, I'd be looking at bleach or fabric softener bottles I guess. There are 2.5 or 3L soda bottles but they're kinda rare. Maybe a big juice or mineral water bottle might be good.

Hmmm maybe even a coffee can??? PET bottles are probably getting a bit floppy by the time they get to be around 120mm.

AntmanMike. You turn that evil eye of the dark one off and do your homework right now young man! ;)

Sorry, it just popped into my head. My grandma use to call the TV Satan eyeball because it took time away from what was important; "God". I think this stuff is a billon times more addictive than crack! Some times i wish I had very found out about this stuff. Then I flog my stupidity demon back into submission and continue to see case mods and oc'ed systems dancing in my head. :D :D
