I picked up a t-bird 1.2 for $87.00 where as a p3 1.266 is $306

and with most amd chips, you can change the multiplier out of box, others you just have to mod.

1) I can afford AMD chips
2) I believe that performance per MHz is better
3) I have used AMD for two years, I am used to its ways.
4) I don't have a 4th reason

LOL! YEA!!!
I recently bought an AMD Duron 800, that I overclocked to 1020 so far. at this speed it beats a P-3 hands down, & plus it costs very little and supports DDR, even w/ SD-RAM it beats Intel mem in Sandra... It even beats crap out of P4 1.2GHz...

I've been w/ AMD for about 2.5 years now and sticking w/ it till Intel drops prices & up performance...

The really only problem with amd chips, (not that it cant be overcome with a good hsf) is that they run hotter than intel chips.

heat heat an heat again is the real reason that i am unsure of the amd's as i aint dedicated and to busy to get water cooling set up will hsf and air only get a amd to its potential?
hey maybe i am 4th reason (liked that 1;) )

Also can i pls have the teams view on wot chip and on what mobo = best overclockability and expandibility and thirdly stability
(i just better have the "A" bility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

keep on keepin on;)

The newer XP chips are cooler if your worried about the heat problems. There have been people with the standard AMD approved HSF that have got good overclocks, even with the older t/birds.

The price of the amd is the best thing about it.

I've currently got 3 AMD machines, one has a orb on it, one has a standard HSF and the other a glacator. All three machines have different uses and different vid/sound/nic cards and i've had no compatabily problems with the chip.

My advise would be go AMD, they out perform the INTEL at lower clock speeds for less money.

Have a look at my sig. All those parts cost a bit over $1,100 and right now, it is just a bit faster that a P4 2100.

lol saw this on the 'net and thought it applied here...

aside from the monstrous overclocking potential of the new northwoods, there's no reason not to go amd...better price, better performance per mhz, even more value after you overclock.

there's nothing wrong with intel, but i prefer amd.

ill give this one a shot what the hey right.
1 amd prices are cheaper then intel.
2. intel dont give away chips for free at special events
3. if you want true mhz performance then stick to amd
4. a duron can beat a p4
5. a celoron cant compete with a duron thats 200mhz slower
6. amd support is great
7. alot more people overclock amds
8.you cant change the multiplier on the p3,4 on the amd you can
9.amds tech is far more superior then intels i mean how can a 1533mhz(xp1800) compete with a p4 1800mhz? easy its not true mhz rating there giving thats why amd is faster.
10.intel changes there chips pins to often and its not compatible with the board you just bought 3 months ago look at the p4 what 3 pin changes or something like that. amd has had the same pin count since the 600mhz athlon and their at what now 1733mhz(xp2100).
11. you got to many choices to chose from when it comes to memorey and the only one that makes the p4 look any good is the rdram and well i would love to see a amd on rdram just to see how good it would really spank intels chips.
12.look at the level 1,2 on die cache also i think amd wins here also.
Boy i hope i got that all right if not someone let me know whats different.
AMD RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok guys, its time to let the cat out of the bag.
So what if amd folds faster, cheaper, unlockable.. blah, blah blah..

the main reason why i'm a big AMD fan is because..

"CHICKS DIG IT".. nuff' said.

a) AMD's make good looking keyrings while the P4 is now small enough to only make Earings.

b) Ill be your friend

c) AMD owners are a nicer, cleaner and overall a more friendlier bunch of people who can take a joke unlike the Intel people who will obviously make comments about this reason.

Nahh but seriously.. Although AMD is faster than Intel Mhz per Mhz, it appears that some people still believe they are better value for money which is not the case any more as AMD prices the product now accordingly to the PR rating ( at least in the UK )
While AMD had the best bang for the buck when the Thunderbird was out, I no longer believe that this is true. In the UK a 1533mhz AMD is priced excessively higher than a 1500 mhz P4 and as such AMD looses the bang for the buck in the UK.

It is pointless comparing each processor as they are significantly different.. it is similar to comparing a ford to a ferrari, both are cars but they are made differently and both will succeed in the areas and purpose they are designed, while the Ferrari is fast has anyone ever seen one win a world rally championship?

Your cash you decide, who am I to convince you of anything..

And yes.. I run AMD

I have used both Intel and AMD, overall I prefer AMD. Intel makes a fine proc, I just think that the XP's are better overall. But it really comes down to, it's your money, if it's no object, Go Intel since you already know them. I you don't want to spend alot, or get more for the same price, go AMD. If it's heat you are worried about, my XP never goes higher than 41'C no matter what I do to it. Not too hot if you ask me. The argument that AMD's are unstable, mumbo jumbo, they are just as stable as an Intel box, they are just a bit more finicky. Happy shopping.
