Have you tried letting the Win2K installation do your partitioning and formatting instead of using FDISK?

dont use fdisk, format from within the 2kCD

dont use any via drivers with 2k, try it without, ive never had much luck with them, and noticed no dif without, do go into your device manager after though and enable dma for your drives, if 2k defaulted them to PIO only

"setup failed to launched installation :class not registered"

also the usb driver came up with
some like "the procedure entry point getlasterrov could not be found in the dll kernel32.dll

ok
i tried your suggestion Turd and i didnt load the VIA drivers.
so far a lil more stable.

i was locking up.. but i turned off the active desktop and it isnt now.

as for the DMA i went into device manager and it showed it being currently PIO but there was a option of something like "DMA if possible" but i dont see anywhere to actually change it.

thanks for all the help.

@@@update :)
well windows is not corrupting for the first time in 2 days. but its very unstable. i am not overclocking it at all. but if i open up a wizard or i tried to surf the net and it locked up soon as web page started to load...
argh.
dumb board
dubm board

guess i will go to the epox page and see if there newer driver helps at all

ok right click on my computer and click on manage
click on device manager
expand the + for IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Dclick on Primary/Advanced settings
Just check and see what is listed and check if they are right for your drive, just click on the "PIO only" box and it will expand to give options

do this for primary and secondary any changes y just reboot to see

oh yea also go and update your direct x to like 8a the default with with 2k is no good

also what does your Manage/Event viewer application and system logs say about your install

Install and then boot from the CD and do a repair from the console and run chkdsk /r and see if that works. run dos help and look at a few of those commands might be able to fix that type of problem. I can't remember which deals with what anymore.
