Just got my shipping confirmation from NCIX. It lists my order as S/N: BX80562Q6600SLACR, which I believe means its a G0. :clap:

They are in stock and still $289 cnd. Ooops price just went up to $325 the reason quoted as, "These processors are under "severe allocation" across North America".

Mine should arrive in the next few days, then we can see what is what.

looking at their stock estimates, i'd say that all their major warehouses have G0 Q6600s now. the "B3-stepping" info for the NCIXUS product page is outdated, and does not reflect their current stock at all. read the forum posts - terren, one of the staff, says that any new shipments coming into canada should be the new G0 stepping cpus

(i hope this isn't just wishful thinking..)

I ordered on Saturday, so I imagine everything since then is new stock. They claim on their board that they had less than a dozen CPUs in stock when the price went down.

Naturally, but I think it's more the combo of both the price drop and the new stepping. That's what I'm all over it for, at least. It's a one-two punch. When I first heard of the price drop I was going to get a Q6600 regardless, since a quad core at less than $300 is a steal. G0 was just icing on the cake.

As I have said elsewhere, there's more than a slim chance that the G0s might overclock poorly but even if they do I wouldn't have bought another Q6600 for twice the price, so either way its a win. That's why I didn't wait and I bought my quad as soon as the price had clearly fallen to a most excellent level. My 4 cores will be kept busy 24/7 how ever it turns out.

I placed an order last night for the items in my sig at around 8pm, when I woke up this morning the price match on my ram had gone through, item stock had been verified, my account had been charged, and the items had been shipped! If you read some of the threads on the NCIX forums the NCIX guys say the new shipments are all G0, no guarentee off course, Orion456 placed an order for one and his order shows the product code with the G0 moniker (SLACR or whatever)

Several people on the NCIX forum are now reporting receiving G0 from Saturday orders. So they are shipping the new chip.

NCIX isn't very prompt with updating product info so I wouldn't expect to see the new G0 data on there anytime soon.

Based on their forums, as well as the Stock Check link (http://www.ncixus.com/products/22211/BX80562Q6600/Intel/, then click on Check Stock near the center of the page), you can see all their warehouses are in Canada, and they're all G0's. I talked to a sales rep just right now to confirm my order, and he also verbally verified to me they are getting hundreds of phone calls regarding G0's and the answer is yes, they only have G0's in stock.

but from my research, most people apply it as thin layer to cover all heatpreader

put a very thin layer of it on the cpu..not the heatsink(woops thought heatspreader was heatsink, nvm)...use latex gloves to smooth it across cpu to make sure it spread all across for good contact ;)

Well to sum this up!...a post from a NCIX admin on their forums

" Just a quick post and reminder about steppings and such.

As a policy, we never every promise anything we cannot deliver, so we've never promised specific steppings or any such for any CPU (or for that matter, stuff like chips on RAM products).

We'd love to do so, but it's simply impossible for us to do, as we really have zero control over the product. We sell whatever a manufacturer (ie: Intel) sends to us, and that's it. If there's a new part#, then it's a new SKU. Same part #, same SKU...

We suspect our stock is a mix of steppings, and really it's the luck of the draw beyond that."

Some of you guys need to stop whining,I have a VIP account and ordered Saturday and I have yet to get a shipping email from them,and I have spent a fortune with them over the years,like say we are approaching 9k now. :o

Intel is setting the max price AMD can charge months in advance.And given the leaked benchs we have all by now seen,the prices on the Phenom X4 will likely be rock bottom.I'm surprised we have not heard mention of what AMD plans to do with the chips that have a faulty core ? What does one do when you are selling a monolithic quad @ 2Ghz+,but one or two of the cores on it cannot break 1.5 or 1.2Ghz etc.... ? Or what if your TDP on three is within spec but core 4 is leaking like a siv ? Monolithic is going to kill yields and profits,and be a royal pain in the arse for AMD engineers.

In fact it likely already is,given that the recent rumors floating about out of Taiwans mobo makers... Anyone remember Anands comment on AMD being in qoute "Near panic mode" on yields/speed bins a few weeks back.

Yep and if AMD goes down, we can expect higher prices and slower development. Hopefully AMD has other fires with IBM and China. I read that China loves AMD chips because they are so cheap. If you can sell a billion chips there for a $1 profit each, that's not too bad.

You didn't read the instructions carefully enough. You don't apply AS5 by spreading, but by putting a small line in the middle (different for AS5 and Ceramique).

And "most people" apply TIM incorrectly, so go with the instructions. That's what they're there for, right? :)

If the box has not been opened you can return it right back to NCIX for a full refund all you lose is the shipping costs. But it doesn't matter at all because the order is fully canceled before shipping.

directron and mwave both didnt for me. one was a power supply at directron and a cpu at mwave.

also newegg i sent back an unopened graphics card and they waived the restocking fee.

The three reps that said that are simply doing that so you don't go back and say "Well you guys told me I would get a G0! I want a new chip!" in case you happen to get a B3. It is common sense that in a situation like this, although the vast majority of people ordering from Ncix are getting G0's and most people still waiting to receive their order will be getting them, there is no 100% guarantee. There will always the few people who manage to get slightly older stock (IE: B3). In my eyes, it's common sense to cover yourself for such an event.

Secondly, please do not generalize Canadian retailers like that. We have all seen our fair share of bad American retailers. Just because a company has two employees saying things differently than others does not make them a bad company. Unless you can prove that all American retailers never make mistakes, I would greatly appreciate it if you retracted your second statement.

Now, I am in no way trying to give off an aggressive or condescending tone, I'm just a little disappointed that you are generalizing Canadian retailers in such a manner. Hopefully you get everything sorted out, best of luck to you.


On another note, Purolator is being slow, and I likely won't be getting my order until Monday now... :-/

I stand corrected. You're right I shouldn't judge Canadian retailers, but I will judge NCIX.com lol. PERHAPS 99.999% of the people have had positive experience in the past, I don't deny that, but my experience has been less than pleasant and suffice to say, that's the only data, only thing I have to go by...

On another note, I have had better experiences with foreign east asia companies like Lik Sang or play-asia.com, even on opening day (VHGS days, Hori sticks, etc).

Still, even NewEgg has given bad service here and there. It just happens. =| Even if people receive a G0 or B3, it's now been so tarnished I think NCIX will post a bigger sign saying "no gurantee" (even though they claim they said it, it was in the forums, not directly underneath the product, nor was it in the sales policy on the bottom) next time, and i think the people who have had to deal with this will just not deal with it the next time as well.

I will say, however, it is largely not NCIX's "fault" per se that they have no control as to what will be SENT to them from their distributors. I just think the whole ordeal could have been better managed... whether it's a bigger sign, better communication to voice their stance, better refund/return policy, etc etc.

In my experience refusing delivery means no restock fee at the very least. Also the one time I refused delivery on an item that had a shipping cost the full amount including shipping was refunded (this was a Gateway monitor bought directly from Gateway.)

I sold my old chip at a loss, other personal affairs/crisis going on at home, only thing I was looking forward to was a G0 and someone said it was just by off chance to end up with a G0... thinking I had a string of bad luck...

anyway, you said it. it really does feel like, a drawing/raffle.

And someone clarified it over at NCIX. Various warehouses carry different stock, and that is why when I called, they checked different warehouses or called different warehouses, which is why I was getting different responses... whether or not that's true, I don't know, but that's what a rep was saying.

Which chip did you sell for a loss btw?

I ebayed my E6700, at roughly $230. Shipping ended up being cheaper, so I made an extra $10 (so total $230, the auction ended at $220).

But I've had it since what, October or November, something ridiculous like that. And it did not overclock very well, (decent, maxed at 3.9GHZ, everyday use at 3.6GHZ). And I did some tests and realize my 8800gtx only needs about 3.2GHZ, after that it's pretty much give or take half a frame (average) in 3dmark01-06. So, I opted for a Quad-Core, paid $301.

So originally, I bought it for $500, sold it at $230, bought a chip at $301. So I'd like to think I invested roughly $600 since October, give or take depending on how you view the chronology and the time spend enjoying a E6700.

See, I don't know THAT much about overclocking to be honest. All I know is put volt in, push fsb, run orthos/TAT, if fail, rinse and repeat. Put voltage in northbridge/CPU VTT/memory for better stability, try again. And I'm on watercooling. And since that's all i know, i'll just bum-rush the darn chip and yea, i'll put some juice in it ;):attn:

im lapping before i put it in the first time :)

all my results will be from a lapped Q6600.

i lapped my e6400 and lost several degrees. i think if i lapped my heatsink better i would have lost more. gonna tweak out my heatsink tonight too with some 1000/1200 grit stuff.

shin-etsu paste is supposedly the best, right now my chip is on AS5. i ordered the shin-etsu a few months back but got lazy to reseat my chip since i have to take everything out to do it. glad i did, now i have a fresh tube for a quad instead.

Well since I had been waiting on hardware, the essay has yet to be started. The delivery man just stopped by and dropped me off a sweet brown box, I opend it up, and everything appeared to be in perfect shape. I just need to go finish assembling my case and I'll be set to start building. Hopefully everything goes well.

lol. well feel good vs sigh of relief... i don't think i whined that much for a long time lol. I won't get the chip til Monday though, I was a cheapskate with the shipping. See, I don't know THAT much about overclocking to be honest. All I know is put volt in, push fsb, run orthos/TAT, if fail, rinse and repeat. Put voltage in northbridge/CPU VTT/memory for better stability, try again. And I'm on watercooling. And since that's all i know, i'll just bum-rush the darn chip and yea, i'll put some juice in it ;):attn:

lol. I think for most overclockers, but there are some people who sit and write down crazy formulas and calculations with ambient, Tcase this, soldering stuff to the motherboard...

i dunno, I can solder, I mod consoles on the side. But something about taking the soldering gun to my motherboard... i dunno, can't do it lol. I can live with vdroop lol. It could just be me, but I feel like my P5N32-E SLI doesn't vdroop that much.

Not that I can recall, I usually just look for P35 OC's in general. Why not push it to see what it can really do and then just put it back down for everyday use? It would kill me if I didn't really know what my chip can actually do. The first thing I will do with mine is put it on steroids :D really hope I get a good one.

100% load, 22C+15C = 37C (I haven't corrected for 100C/85C Tjunction in speedfan yet), i used quad-prime95.

idle, 11C+15C = 27C!!! (my ambience is 25C, I have screen shot as proof... actually it's more of convenience, my clock has a built in thermometer)

I'm sure I have enough credibility without doing a screen shot, but I will if need be... I'm at 3.33GHZ, idling at 32C/28C/28C/28C.. I have a suspicion one of the screws isn't on tight on my waterblock. I will correct that after I lap the chip in a couple weeks... but damn these chips ARE the hype. I don't remember seeing these temps on my old E6700 at STOCK.

BTW, Coretemp95 still isn't working for me, it reboots, so I've added 15C to my speedfan.

I'm baffled, to be honest. I dont' know why it's freezing. I only "guessed" because after 1.3325volts, it'll begin to crash, no matter what speed.

I only guessed it because , as you said, 620W... a Quad will pull, let's say 300W. My 8800gtx 688MHZ/1015MHZ is pulling quite a bit as well... I have read different numbers, but I don't have a meter to get an accurate measure. Some are saying 209W idle, 287W on load. Then add 5 harddrves, 10W each, I figured I was getting close... I don't know... I'm still working on it. I'm going to revert back 1103 BIOS, my problems started to rise after 1203 BIOS.

Edit: Coretemp VID 1.3125Well, it may be one of the higher VID's, but it's a relatively "late in the cycle" manufacture date (12th week of '07). So don't let the VID discourage you.

As you can see, the B3 Xeon in my sig, that I received just last week, is a relatively low VID for a B3 Kentsfield, but also a much older manufacture date: 40th week of '06.

Jeez louis, I have no idea what's holding me back. I'm already pushing 1.55NB volts, I've killed memory sticks before so I'm mindful of that, but something weird happens at >350FSB, which is where I'm at now, and that's a meager 3150MHZ. And it's really stable, but if I hit 351FSB, then i'll get random lockups. I had 3000MHZ prior, but couldn't get to 3150, after I bumped up from 1.5v to 1.55v in the NB, i was able to do 3150...

does that seem unreasonable? seems unreasonable to me, the NB temps are only 35C ATM too... al;skfjl;askdjfsdf going nuts here.

yeah that is one of the reasons I canceled my order from NCIXUS. Not only did I have a good chance of getting a B3 instead of a G0 but their order process was taking FOREVER for a lot of people. Why risk getting a B3 when I can just wait for Tankguys a few more days and be sure to get what I want. Plus they ****ed me off with their $9.99 shipping BS. I ended up sending them a fiery email and later on they allowed me to select the $9.99 but I was done with them by that time.

In fact, I'd say if your Vcore is accurate, that's very good. Possibly better than my sig B3 Xeon, I believe. I moved pretty quickly into higher OC's, but couldn't pass Quad Orthos stability at either 3.0 or 3.2 on stock VID, I don't remember which. I just fired it straight up to either 3.0 or 3.2, and bumped Vcore a hair, when it didn't pass stability (it was a simple direct drop-in replacement for my then E6600, so I didn't do my usual more methodical initial testing).

So yeah, you've got a pretty good B3 (so far), IMHO.

I figure for a B3 Quad, that a max stable OC of 3.2 on air, and 3.4 on H20, is *good*. And by "good", I mean just that: A good overclock. Anything over that qualifies as *great*, IMHO.

Well, I think it's because people generally like the offerings, not because gigabyte/abit don't overclock well. I think we'll see more numbers as time goes by. the Bearlake's just have good potential when coupled w/ Quads
