ok, so i'm running synctoy on vista to backup to a external disk drive, however, when i set it to the job scheduler it runs extremely slow. sync toy usually take roughly 1-2 minutes to complete if you run it without the scheduler. with the scheduler running it takes close to 10-15

is there a way to change the priority to realtime or something similar (highest, high etc....) on sync toy by using arguments? or anyway to change it via registry or other methods?

You could always add the /abovenormal or /high switch to the Target field of the program's shortcut, in order to start the program w/ a higher priority... something like:

"C:\Program Files\{application folder}\SyncToy.exe" /abovenormal

You could also use the START command to set the priority of your process... Start | Run Type cmd /K start /?, and click OK.
