View Full Version : Pete to break 1,000,000 points/Month

Tomorrow, Pete will break the 1 million points per month barrier. He'll do it on his own, at his own expense, with his own machines, in his own house. No corporate borgs, no help from his friends. I'd say that is mighty impressive!

With his upgrades in progress, it won't even take a 31 day month in the future. :D

Wow Pete that is amazing. I think the dictionary definition of dedication would be you. WTF. Let's see if someone has what it takes to beat you.

IIRC, Pete's doing this with 16 rigs. Anybody can have massive pointage (well, not a million/month) by building a 4 quad farm. 12,000 ppd with a modest OC, 360,000 points/month.

I guess it really comes down to how deep is your pocket or how much are you willing to spend for F@H (on a MONTHLY base btw! hardware isn't much, it's the electricity that might kill most people!)......

(I'm awaiting on this month's, july, power bill to see if the a/c fix helps bring the bill down somewhat reasonable.....)

Yep. Even if you can afford the hareware, ...

Wow! That's an insane stat, WTF Pete!

Do you have pics of your farm? Or specs? Curious minds want to know.

you can find most of the spec at his sig.

Thanks for the nice words all :)

1 mil in a month is a nice milestone cuz after a while, there are longer periods of time (weeks/months) between overtakes, etc.

Ongoing costs have been one of my major themes lately, even tho I have somewhat regulated electric costs here. And in the summertime, the heat output is a double hit since it impacts a/c costs too. The heat is actually a good thing in the early spring, late fall and winter since it heats the house.

My sig is out of date again since i added the 2 Q6600 G0's, 1 of them replacing a 6400, and have turned off 3 930d rigs this week. My little rack room is cooler now with the 3 930's off, but my office/bench room is cooking since i have 3 quads in here atm. So, except for a single 930d still running, everything else is now 4mb cache c2d, or c2q. And with the 3 930's now off, I am back under my 16 rig limit.

I limit myself to 16 production rigs which is about the physical limit on my ghetto homemade rack and also my 3 kvm/monitor limit. There were some pic's on the farm thread i think. Sometimes i am 1 or 2 above the 16 limit when working with new stuff on the bench. The only components I buy these days are cpu's (quads), a few mobos where i am replacing non-c2d capable ones, and a little memory. PSU's, video and hdd's are unchanged for > 6 months now and nothing new anticipated.

There is never a shortage of projects tho with all this hardware around!

Don't say that too loudly. I have a sense that nik is a tad bit sensative about that matter. ;)

It sounds interesting ... except it would put me 1 mil farther behind ChasR :D

You wouldn't want me to take a long weekend away ....

it seems some of my rigs are loafers ...I was at the cottage for a long weekend but i didn't give them the long weekend off ...
so upon my return i see a big production dive ... a few hung wu's, 2 hung quads whose wu's were expired when i restarted them ... and a couple of quads looking for work for a day or so ... :bang head

There have been some issues with memory reporting to the AS of rigs running Ubuntu 7.04, resulting in assignment to 0.0.0.0. I've had two that couldn't get an assignment no matter what. It appears to be fixed as of 21:00 UTC.

LandShark
08-06-07, 07:33 PM
it happened on Ubuntu 6.10 too!

pscout
08-06-07, 07:42 PM
The 2 rigs both have work now ... one was 6.10, one was 7.04.

I am guessing the work/assignment server changes stanford has been making caused it. Never a dull moment it seems for the stanford server/infrastructure guys.

ChasR
08-06-07, 09:51 PM
The 6.10s I monitor, never missed a beat. 2 for 2 on 7.04 quitting. At least one SMP server has been alergic to the -advmethods setting. Don't know if that got corrected or not.

Yeah, what a job that would be.

I never used advmethods on any of the smp betas ... it caused problems early in the linux smp beta ... so i have never put it on. Maybe someday when there is actually an advmethods class of smp wu's it will be time to try it out again.

Is that day coming?

pscout

Is that day coming?

I expect so but don't have a clue as to when. My guess is sometime after the v6 client comes out, stanford gets all the smp clients out of beta, and they stop reconfiguring their servers.

Add those all up and i expect it will be a while. On the other hand, vijay and co have been suprising us quite a bit over the last 6-9 months.

Wouldn't it be great if out of the 99% of computers that are actually folding.... 1% are being used by the government to spy on America! Now they only need pete's farm and that's it!!!!!!

ha Ha AHAH!!H!!H *evil laughter*
