Which would be better for audio/photo/video editing, and HTPC & some gaming? going to OC a Q6600 as fast/stable as I can get it without getting too noisy/hot. I'll probably water cool this. Eventually, I'll probably max the mobo at 8GB, but that might be a year away so I'm ok with 4x1 modules for now if that's the best price/performance point.

Without a doubt I would take the 800Mhz Crucial Ballistix. Should perform at about the same level as the 1066. See comparison here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=521047).

wow, great study deeppow! thanks

ok, if I go 4x1 then I'm going crucial Ballistix. too bad crucial doesn't make 2GB modules for Ballistix :(

still not sure which of those 2x2GB kits would be better... probably the mushkins, but they are more $$

any other ideas?

I'm going to order something tomorrow morning.

thanks again

I got the OCZ 6400 2x1GB plats for about $85 delivered from Frys. They are about $5 more today. Running at 998 as I type. RAM is, or can be, cheap right now. Walked by a compusa today. They tried to stuff a bunch of RAM in my pockets because they were having trouble giving it away. Not really, but it does describe the situation in memoryville these days.

You can't go wrong with Crucial Ballistix mate. The 8500's are on special again at $240 for 4Gb... it is a great deal for great performance.

My vote goes to the GSkill 6400 HZ's.... They are DIRT cheap right now and I've got mine running 5-5-5-10 at 555 Mhz with only 2.25v.

Haven't run Memtest yet, but ran OCCT for 4 hours with no failure.....

those g skills are tight, but i went with the crucial ballistix pc6400 because the rebate at newegg made em $65 per kit... had to at that point lol
