Which defragmenting program gives the best performance? (windows XP, NTFS)

Im not really sure, although I doubt there would be much difference between all of them as NTFS does not fragment as quickly as FAT

Yeah you're probably right as far as the fragmentation is concerned. Maybe I should rephrase my question.

Which hard drive optimizer results in the best performace? (programs that change file order so that frequently used files are in middle of disk, etc)

I've been using disk keeper for about a year and love it.It's fast
and has a feature called boot time in which it takes care of your swapfile and directories and a bunch of other stuff. Its not to much$$($50 I think) and I think there is a demo you can d/l

Diskeeper and Speed Disk is great!

I prefer speeddisk over diskkeeper just my preference. speeddisk does all the defrag at once rather then having to reboot to get it done.

XP and Win2K's built in defragmenter is actually a stripped down version of Diskeeper.

I personally like O&O and have used it for a long time. They have bot h a pay version and free version.
