luminglas (http://strattman.com/gallery.html) would look great somewhere on my case and equipment racks.

does anyone know more about it?

i read that it runs off 12v:
1. can it be powered by my pc's power supply?
2. would it be a static hazzard?
3. what are the smallest dimentions available?
4. is it a potential heat source?
5. is it sealed?

thank you

I can not answer any of the questions you ask however the company does have a pricing and specification page at the bottom of the URL you posted, or perhaps you could try emailing the cpmpany for further information and get the facts straight from the horses mouth so to speak

thats a little too pricey....

probably run you at least 400 bucks for a cool piece of luminglass based on their other prices...yeah it would look really sweet but is it really that important to you?

depending on the response i get from the luminglas, this may or may not happen...i doubt it will cost $400 for what i want...

if i could get more info on this and/or the cheap ones in the head shops...i'll know if its a waste of my time.

Seems like it should cost a bunch but ne thing custom made is going to cost at least 250 otherwise they wouldn't bother with it.

I would love to get one of these but I don't think they will sell for around 100bucks if they did I would order 4!

1 yes ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
Power Supply: input - 12VDC, 1 Amp wall transformer (UL Listed)
Physical Dimensions: 2" x 3.5" x 6" (weight less than 1lb.)
2 well no
3 I believe the smallest shown is 10inch circle
4 Little heat not much
5. yes of course it is sealed.

I want one but they are hand made and if you surf the site you will see it is true art glass which can be very pricey.

Poking around in here will show you alot. Some are nuts, some are delusional, but at the very least it's entertaining. This is where I learned to make these.

Storm glass has the surface sealed with a baked on epoxy resin applied under vacuum. Glass looks smooth to us, but it's not, and it's full of holes. Nobel gases can leach through. These things are filled with nobel gas under a slight vacuum. They then can conduct arcs like you see in the pics, using different gasses for different colors. (helium, neon, argon etc..)
The power source is the primary one. The secondary that they don't tell you about (cause hey, you could build one too) is a high frequency, high voltage one. (well over 5,000 volts) Not something I'd put in my computer. It makes the gas turn to plasma, thus light up and conduct, same as lightening does. Same as a gas laser does (with containment).

You may be able to make these, but they wouldn't last long. Those who can, ask alot for them because there's alot that goes into making them that can't be seen on the surface.
