View Full Version : ASUS TUSL2 and old Golden Orb...
Hi there,
I just upgraded my old SOYO 6VBA-133 MoBo with the new ASUS. I'm using a PIII 650 cB0 that used to overclock pretty well @866(around 45c full load) but now I get temps around 60c. I checked my Golden Orb, reapplied artic silver and remounted it but that wasn't it. I noticed that even at 60c the cooler is very cool so my guess is it isn’t attached right. Anyone had any experience with an ASUS TUSL2 and a Golden Orb? What cooler would you suggest that will mount ok with this MoBo and if possible be compatible with new Tualatin CPUs?
Thanks a lot.

Hi M4st3R, welcome to the Forum,
Gorb aren't good for thr OC thing (higher temps), but first of all try to reseat it on your P/// with care, coz this HeatSink can broken the Cpu core! or consider to go with an high performance cooler made of copper like the ThermalRight SK6 with a Delta38 (noisy) or a Millenium Glaciator II (quiet).
I hope it helps you ;)

I have a chrome orb that I had on my bro's comp, which is basically the AMD version for Socket 462. It sucks man. He has a 1900+ xp and it ran around 115-120F full load; Way too hot for a palomino cored athlon. They don't generate that much heat and should be down around 105F so I put a Dynatron skived copper microfin on there with a 60x38mm 50CFM Delta jet engine and now it's down around 95F full load with prime95's torture test. The chrome orb sucked, so I'd bet the golden orb isn't much better. Also, the chrome orb's contact surface was a round piece of aluminim that looked like it had been turned on a lathe cuz there were still concentric rings from the tool on it even...it wasn't smooth. Get a new HSF. I never have had one but Millenium Glaciator IIs are supposed to be great.
*edit: Also, those skived microfin heat sinks are dust traps extraordinaire....especially with a delta 38 blowing through them. Clean 'em out regularly or watch your temps rise every few days.

You might be able to find a good deal on an Alpha PAL 6035 now too and with a YS Tech fan it should cool that P3 650 real good and won't be too noisy.
