View Full Version : Theres a hole in my bucket!
dear liza, dear liza :(
just installed my new system, and ive been running it for a wee while leak testing and there seems to be a very small leak somewhere amongst the rad fins near the barb end of it.
does anyone have any advice on how to fix it? unfortunately i think i have somewhat voided the warranty by adding a fillport to the other chamber :/
Plumber's solder (also called hard solder or silver solder) like they use with car radiators.
It might be worth taking the rad to a radiator shop for the repair. That way you don't have to worry about accidentally desoldering anything while you're trying to solder the leak or making other amateur mistakes.
The other DIY option would be epoxy (JB Weld, plumber's putty, etc). But if the rad is leaking back in the fins, I don't see how you'd epoxy it properly.

Depending on what radiator you're talking about, the repair job might be more expensive than a new radiator.
True. But it's not going to hurt to get a price.

Plumbers works well.
I'm sort of luckly, I've got a local rad repair shop that has always done my motorcycle rad repairs for free. I've talked to a few others in the area and they'll do it for free on the side. (Usually takes more time, as they do it when they have a free moment) One charges me $10 if I need it quickly.
If it's your rad, you could try fixing it yourself if you know exactly where the leak is.
