Has anyone had any experience using bootcamp or another partioning program to run XP or Vista on a Mac? Does anyone know if this is a reasonable alternative for PC gaming? I was wondering how gaming on a Mac using XP or Vista stacks up to just Gaming on a PC?
The reason being a find myself in need of Mac based editing programs, but my need to have a PC to game on outweighs my need for Mac only programs.
Input apprecieated
Thanks.

Adobe Premiere is equally as good as Final Cut Pro if that's what you're referring to. Bootcamp isn't going to cut it for gaming, not only are the graphics cards on Macs under-clocked, but you're going to be running games on top of an emulator which is going to cut your performance.

I thought boot camp wasn't an emulator? Doesn't it create a proper NTFS partition?

Bootcamp is just a bootloader, it is a native x86 or x86_64 windows install. No different then if you were to go buy the same hardware from another company.

Yeah, once you have XP/Vista installed, it is basically a PC until you reboot into OSX.

So it is basically equal to a PC of the same Specs?

How long ago? I've been here about 14 years now, but I was born here, and then we moved around. I was in Charleswood, now I live on Broadway right downtown.

Yep. Like someone said before, sometimes they use videocards that are clocked a bit lower, but it will still game like a PC.

I am on a macbook currently booted in XP. The experience is no diffrent from using XP on a normal computer. Gaming is doable but as said the graphics cards are not usually the best. I currently play CS:S on my macbook and it is decent. If you are going with a desktop I believe you have options to get a better video card.

Bootcamp is fine if you are a serious gamer (ok if you more than passive, serious gamer wouldn't buy a mac)..but anyway don't forget to check out WINE for OSX. Many games will run via wine.

How do Falcon Northwest or Voodoo Laptops stack up to regular desktops? Are there any exceptions to the rule to where A laptop might not be as under rated as per say its desktop equivilent? Price wise.

If we are talking equivalent prices, a desktop will win every time.

Even if the components are the same (which they wont be), the desktop will pretty much always come out ahead.
