Turning a vid to gif

i used gif animator 5... :D

i just used virtualdub to save an avi segment into images and then i would use Animagic gif animator to put it all together and edit it. . .hmmm, i think i might try some of the option suggested above though as they might be a little simpler and offer more options. . .
